I have been on Paxil for three weeks now. 10 mg for one week, 20mg for 1 3/4 weeks and 30mg for the past two days. I still feel ZERO relief! Does this mean that it will not work at all?? It is my only hope 😭

In a word, no - this does not mean that it won’t work at all. Technically - according to the medical people - you need to allow 6 weeks for a med to reach full “potential”.

Also, as I understand it, a med’s effectiveness is usually based on blood levels - meaning the med needs to reach - and maintain at - a “certain amount” in the system. This “certain amount” is different for everyone. And, again as I understand it, medical folks can provide a range of values for that “certain amount” to achieve effectiveness - called a “therapeutic level” - but, at best, those are guesstimates.

I’m not sure about this either, but I think you may need to allow for a bit more than 6 weeks due to you’re not being at the 30mg for very long - this relates to the “certain amount” around in your system.

And, there is always the potential that 30mg may not work, but, for example, 50mg would (I don’t know the dosing amounts of Paxil - the point is an increase in dose of same med may prove beneficial) - again related to reaching a thereputic level. This point I actually do know to be true to an extent - I have experienced this with meds, though not with Paxil specifically.

I also know for a fact that waiting on a med to see if it will help or not is excruciating. All I can say is hang in, be patient…you just never know!

There's still hope! Like LemonSys said, it can take over a month for the med to truly kick in. Patience, my friend. You could need another dose increase too. The max dose for Paxil I think is 50 or 60mg. Some people just need a higher dose than others for meds to work.

It can take a long time to see benefits. Negative side effects often show up immediately but go away with time and the positive side effects need a month and a half or longer to show up. I had a very wise pdoc once who said you need to give a medication 3 months before adding more meds or upping doses. Playing around with meds looking for instant relief doesn’t work. So adding another med too soon is bad and upping doses too soon is bad. If really hard to be patient in this world of instant gratification but the wait is worth the benefit. ( that’s a paraphrase as he said it much better. He was a great doctor and took me off my abundance of meds and after 3 months of detoxing he started with one med. it took time, 2 yrs but the end result was stability)

I remember when I first went on Lexapro, it took months before I noticed any kind of emotional benefit. I had been on Paxil before that, but I think when I was on the latter it seemed to work more rapidly than the Lexapro for me.

@darkfeary, I agree with @Nammu........It will take some time, possibly 2-3 months, before you know exactly how well Paxil it going to work for you.

What is your target dose?......I think I mentioned before that the max recommended dose is 50-60mg/day.

You have to give it at least 6 weeks. High dose is 50 mg.
