Hello,
this is my first post here and I wish to write about my experience with the Neon brand of Nardil.
A brief history first.
I am 75 and have had atypical depression after a 2 year spell of deep depression accompanied by agoraphobia in my late teens.
After trying tricyclics, my psychiatrist prescribed Nardil at a dose of 30mg..
Anxiety levels reduced and my energy levels improved along with my mood.
After a while I recovered enough to get a full time job and after coming off Nardil I was fine for a couple of years but another dip resulted in being prescribed Parstelin, ( Parnate plus Stellazine compound)
Over the years I’ve had great success with Nardil treating my bouts of depression but that all changed when the original manufacturer Parke Davis discontinued making them.
All the generics we’re never quite as effective in my opinion, and in 2019 my G.P started me on Parnate (10mg then finally 30mg).
This helped but not quite as much as the original Nardil.
Last year I heard about Neon brand Nardil and became enthusiastic about trying it as it was claimed to be very near the Parke Davis formulation which had worked so well for me.
At a dose of 30mg (gradually introduced over 2 weeks) I had an almost psychotic few days of feeling spaced out, over sensitive to events yet strangely able to become upset and almost having a meltdown without seeming too bothered by the consequences. I reduced my dose and am now only taking 2 and 1 on alternate days and am being helped a bit without too many side effects. This has never happened on any other version of Nardil, or indeed on any other antidepressant I have had. This is only my personal experience and should not discourage anyone from trying Neon brand Nardil, but I would urge caution and strongly suggest gradually increasing the dose week by week allowing time to adjust to each new dose level.
Hope this is useful to others.
Best wishes to all.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Depression is awful enough without having an unfortunate experience like you had. I hope your current dose is helpful for you. It's kind of you to let others know about your experience.

Thanks Beth.
Yes, things are better now. Unfortunately just as things were settling down both my wife and I caught dreadful winter colds so not easy to evaluate true situation. Suffice to say I’m much more optimistic and have managed to help out at a local amateur theatre setting up lights for a comedy which played to a packed house for its 6 night run. Being with like minded people and feeling appreciated is so important for anyone who can manage to get involved. I’m really lucky to have this little theatre nearby, it really helps.

I'm glad to hear things are better for you now, TowersatGrayling. Did you and your doctor find a better brand?

That's great that it worked for you. I tried it twice in the 90's (60-70 mg) and nothing. Tried the other MAOi's, too but nothing.

Thanks for concern. I’m riding this one out as far as I can as I hate the period of switching and waiting with anything new. I realise a brand change won’t need a washout period but I’m hoping I can get the right balance between side effects and benefits. I also need to check what’s available here in U.K. as Neon seems to be be the main or possibly the only one readily available.

Footnote- 23/7/2023
Stopped Neon brand of Nardil just over 5 weeks ago and carefully cross-tapered back to Parnate. Now taking 2 a day and while north as ‘relaxed’ in body I have totally lost that annoyed-with-the-slightest-thing feeling and am more likely to get things done.
Just the last week or so have become very droopy eyed and slightly sleepy which I’m hoping is it related to the Parnate as I’ve never had that before.
I’ll now switch to the Parnate group with any updates.

No, I believe Neon is the only one currently available here in The U.K..
Lupin and Erfa were available up to a couple of years ago but each variant had a different strength of action for me.

I take the generic brand of drugs. But can I just say the brand name? HelloWorld18 Anxiety, Panic and Phobias 2 Sep 23, 2013 04:25 PM
