A week or so ago i was having trouble sleeping. I didn't take this pill for many years but I kept some. It didn't help enough for sleep and I got another prescription from my doctor gave me something i cant remember. olanzapine maybe? i said, you might as well give me benadryl because its what they give to any restless teenagers in psych units. he got angry, he knows i know the medicines and i see how that is underminding him of his ability to be a doctor.
he finally asked if i wanted to be admitted, i said yes. well hours later i hear him back in the er tending to someone. i asked nicely if i would be speaking to him since he seemed to say i'm going inpatient, i know i clearly said yes to be admitted. he said, i didn't expect to see you here this morning. i ended up leaving. sometimes i just need to shut my brain up, and i thought maybe being around other people in hosptial would help, and also get my physical things addressed. i do have a very good psychiatrist who has won awards, his father founded the hospital. i'll be sad the day he retires. i made an appt with him but its not for 2 weeks or so yet. this med, its doing nothing. my brain keeps going. i want the thoughts to shut up but they wont. i dont know what to do anymore. i feel embarrased to have let my landlord and his gf know last night that i went looking for help at the hospital for this. i dont think i should be embarrassed but it's still kinda stupid to share this information. i just needed to talk. They are a nice couple, i just keep to myself and out of the way in my room. most of the time. lately it's like i'm coming out of my shell and i want help but there isn't any. if anyone knows a medication that would definitely get me to sleep that'd be great. i even tried an imnovane, but that was in the noisy er so i dont think i got more than an hour of sleep there. no one has any answers. i guess i'll figure it out. typing is helping. it's pretty bad when you are talking to yourself all day. |

I take an antidepressant called mirtazepine at night, I does help me sleep.
You are sounding particularly agitated, it sounds like you should see a pdoc asap to discuss your options... any way to called the pdoc's office tomorrow to see whether there's been a cancellation where you could see the pdoc sooner? Maybe the seroquel you're taking now has expired and has lost its effect? What is the dose? |

I really appreciate seeing you answer me... it really is bad. No they weren't expired, I had just asked the pharmacy to ask my psychitarst i've had for so many years now. i kept an old bottle for years. It was to remind me I never want this cr*p medication again. It made me gain a hundred pound and helped contribute to getting type 2 diabetes and restless legs.
because i was in hospital years ago after domestic abuse this psychiatrist put me on 150 mg dose. It made me feel like I was walking through really thick soup. I was just tying to walk around the town with my little boy and could hardly do it. So I figured out that 25 mg would help me sleep. It was giving me less help at the higher dose but i dont think i knew the side effects could be this bad. Recently I've been to hospital and they just gave me a couple doses of antipsyoctic pills 2 or 4. I cant do this anymore, to get off of them is hell to me. I asked for the seroquel a few months ago. I;m not sure why now. I cant sleep, I cant eat.. i have no one who would undersand. I do have an appt I really appreciate the reminder because i'm really bad right now at remembering anything than my awful past. Thank you @TheGal I hope you're alright too. Oh and my mom had mirtazepine many years after I google searched one that could help her constant itching. Her ears would itch. mine do too, it might be worth changing my antidepressant. I guess I have to wait until the appt. I cant find the note I wrote it on I'll look for it tomorrow. I hope he knows what a hard thing this is and all the no help at hospitals will make him concerned, because I really do need help. I feel bipolar. I'll be laughing at myself and then balling my eyes out |

I hope you can get medical attention really soon. Did you call the psychiatrist to see whether there was a cancellation? My diagnosis is severe major depression with psychotic features (also generalized anxiety and some OCD), I too was in an abusive relationship. I feel for you. I actually take 3 antidepressants which is a lot... but needed, in my case. I posted a questionnaire about it, here: Psychotic Depression / Depression with psychotic features ASSESSMENT SCALE Can you sleep at all? I am worried about you... Keep track of your symptoms (thoughts, feelings, itchy ears, constipation, sweats, whatever you are experiencing) so you can share them with the pdoc, if you get worse, do consider going back to emergency. |

Do you have IR or XR? IR is a lot better at getting you to sleep while XR helps you cope with the day. I took some of each when I was on it.

What is IR and ER instant release and extended release? I' have'nt known there were 2 types of seroquel. I guess mine is generic. I tried to message sooner. Thank you for caring, how are you able to cope.

Yes, IR is instant release and XR is extended. Both are generic I believe.
I wouldn't really call this moment coping. I'm pretty severely depressed. But I do have meds that keep me more stable than ever before. I just seem to have a winter depression every year. Don't give up. It took a while but I have an excellent therapist, an excellent pdoc and meds that help. I won't lie, it took years to get the meds balanced but it can be done.llll/ __________________ Bipolar 1, PTSD, GAD, OCD. Those weren't my worst delusional times but i have had delusions. Actually after my second son I was really delusional. I tried to hide it, I ended up in hospital for a week or so in the psych unit. This is something to discuss with my psychiatrist. He's always just labelled me severe longstanding depression and anxiety. I know because I had to get a paper for disability tax credit. I read it. It said prognosis poor. I've never told him I've been hallucinating some times in my life. It's time to tell him. I've forgotten when my appt is for. I wish I wasn't so disorganized. I wrote it down but now waiting for a voicemal back. I wish you continued strength and better days. I can try to imagine what its like, I'm sorry. hugs |

Can I also ask you for a favor on these forums? Your font is black and small, making it hard to read. This is from your format: [COLOR="Black"][SIZE="2"] Can you please try not using a special format but instead using the default one, to type in bigger letters and so that they would not be so dark? __________________ Bipolar I w/psychotic features Last inpatient stay in 2018 Geodon 40 mg Seroquel 75 mg Gabapentin 1200 mg+Vitamin B-complex (against extrapyramidal side effects) Long term side effects from medications, some of them discontinued: - hypothyroidism - obesity BMI ~ 38 |

Hi there. I hope you're doing well by now.
I used to take Seroquel (instant-release) for sleep. It took 100 mg to put me to sleep (along with 200 mg trazodone and 1 mg Xanax). I get away now with just Lunesta at 3 mg, thankfully. One thing about Seroquel was that it made me gain weight. Not as much as some other psych meds, but it can do that. That's probably the least of your concerns right now, though. Olanzapine (brand name Zyprexa) can help you sleep probably a little better than Seroquel if you're going for antipsychotics for sleep. However, you wouldn't want to be on that long-term because it is the second worst offender for causing diabetes (second to clozapine). Mirtazapine (brand name Remeron) is another one that was mentioned above that could help you sleep, too. It, too, can cause weight gain though. Depending on where you live, there are some newer medicines called dual orexin antagonists (DORAs), which include Belsomra (suvorexant), Dayvigo (lemborexant), and Quviviq (daridorexant). They're probably not as potent as antipsychotics, benzos, or Z-drugs though. But they're great for sleep maintenance. __________________ Diagnoses: Tourette's Disorder, OCD, ADHD-PI, Bipolar I Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety Disorder Unspecified Medications: Dyanavel XR 15 mg 30 mg/day Lamictal 300 mg/day Cymbalta 90 mg/day Lunesta 3 mg/night Dayvigo 10 mg/night |

I had a never ending headache on Dayvigo. It is a commonly reported side effect. I had to come off of Dayvigo for this reason. I also did not sleep enough on Dayvigo, but that might have been due to waking up early with a headache. Maybe if not for the headache, I would have slept longer.
The headaches were so bad that I ended up going to urgent care. There the doctor asked me what medications I had recently started and quickly pinpointed Dayvigo as the culprit. __________________ Bipolar I w/psychotic features Last inpatient stay in 2018 Geodon 40 mg Seroquel 75 mg Gabapentin 1200 mg+Vitamin B-complex (against extrapyramidal side effects) Long term side effects from medications, some of them discontinued: - hypothyroidism - obesity BMI ~ 38 |

thank you! I do not know if I was more susceptible than the general population to this side effect due to chronic migraine. The Dayvigo headache felt different, though.
