Risperdal,
You may try posting this in the Drug Questions forum above in General. There is other available information about different drugs if you click on the drugs tab at the header. It is between Ask and Blog. Good luck

So far I have tried Zyprexa, Risperdal, and Abilify. Risperdal was the best at stablizing my moods.
The Zyprexa put 10 lbs on me in 2 months so I quit it. After 3 years on Risperdal I started lactating on 1mg. I do not believe I gained weight on it. I am still very new to Abilify. I am not getting up in the middle of the night to eat like with Zyprexa. In fact, I don't think it has caused any appetite effect. And no lactating. I guess what side effects are you not willing to put up with? Geodon, besides, the heart thing, is supposed to have low side effects. But my pdoc says that the number of people that it actually helps is small.

ZYprexa and Seroquel have had class action law-suits regarding the weight gain issue and development of type 2 diabetes.
Risperdal causes many women to get increases in Prolactin and then start lactating. Abilify is supposed to be weight neutral, but it seems to cause aggression in people. Most of the anti-psychotics have some effects. You sort of have to see what you can live with. Many of them cause weight gain and many are sedating. You might have to try a few to see which works best for you. ![]() |

I'm on risperidone and haven't gained any weight while on it. I did have a problem with lactating at first but my body seems to have adjusted and it's no longer an issue. The biggest problem for me is it makes feel and project emotionally flat - no big lows but no big highs either. Oh yeah and my hands tremmor, but I'm on so many different meds that I'm not sure which one is causing that or if its the combination.
I've found the risperidone really helpful in reducing dissociation, and feelings of paranoia, and just more generally keeping me grounded in reality. --splitimage |
