Hi there
I know Lithium can cause acne to flare up, but it hadn't before, I've been on Lamictal since Aug 2002 besides a lower dose of Lithium (hardly any, according to therapeutic dosage)
does anyone here take Lamictal? If so, did it cause any acne type flare ups? I know you can get rashes when you first start the medication, but I have not had any of those side effects cause my doc gave it to me gradually like it should be prescribed (Topamax is done like this too) in fact I think almost all psyc.meds are done in this fashion.
I'll will ask my doc when I see him, but I was just wondering.
I must take in consideration that as a teen I suffered with this skin problem much worse than now, I mean I am 46 y.o. it seems strange now that it is reoccuring Maybe it is the hormone irregularity, being pre-menopausal too. I am happy with the results I have gotten from Lamictal, it is a fantastic med. especially for anti-depressant resistant depression
I would highly recommend to anyone having this resistance to anti-depressants, plus it doesn't sedate you, that is a plus when you have to drive a lot

Always wondering about something, sometimes my mind works overtime

Take care and thanks for any replies.

Hi DarkEyes!
I take Lamictal for a seizure disorder. Trileptal hung a number on me (no coordination at all!) so doc prescribed this. I have suddenly put on 10 pounds that I didn't need, have been battling pimples like I'm a 14 year old again and my head races. All in all though, I haven't had a sz yet, so I suppose that's a good thing. My menses isn't all that regular either, comes 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on again (makes it very suspenseful, he he he). I'm getting ready to call my doc and ask about these things. If I get a decent answer, I'll let ya know!

Hey there
Are you saying the Lamictal caused you to gain weight?? Oh, noooooooooooooooo
I was told it would NOT make me gain weight, but on the other hand I haven't been able to get it off I know this weight gain of 30 lbs. is due to these meds in general, cause the only time I weighed this weight was during pregnancy, so I know there is either the Lithium still in question cause it does cause weight gain (affects thyroid/metabolism), but now I am wondering if I was lied to (it wouldn't be the first time) that a med won't cause me to get fat just to make me stay or go on mood stabilizer(s), ha! ha! who knows anymore ??
Take care and good luck

Yep, I was lied to again, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !! I just read the same thing, "cause weight gain", about Lamictal at various Lamictal sites. The monograph that comes with your prescription that I have does not mention weight gain ?? I'll take the info from Glaxo, who manufactures Lamictal, their site said it causes weight gain. Damn! damn! these doctors, amazing how they'll lie to you, just to keep you medicated !! I printed the articles out and tomorrow I am showing my doc, he may be innocent, so I'll put him wise, and ask for some changes, I am ready to give up the meds now anyway cause the only issues I carry now is the loss of my dad, and there is no pill that can cure a broken heart. I weight gain causes to depress me why would a doc give you weight causing pills, especially after I resovled the issues that had caused me to seek help??
I am so disgusted with being jerked around by docs lately, I better "chill out", ha!ha!
