Hey there.
I just recently went through a self-imposed trial of lowering my Xanax. Nothing drastic - just 1/4 of a milligram less in the morning. Dr. said that is ok. But now, I'm fighting with people at work and spouting off with no self control like I did in the past. I want to keep my job. Mom telling me to take more Xanax. But I kept falling asleep during the day often right before going to work when I took it. I thought I was on too much before.

Plus, I'm on two other medications. Doctor thinks too much medication. Mom believes more is good. Having trouble with husband. Thinking of quitting second job done at home - too stressful and not making much money. I NEED the other job though. It's much better money and I love it when I'm one-on-one with the kids. People at work don't have the same values I do. They're not the most wholesome people. Everything is getting to me. I can't get my housework done when I have this other part-time job to do all weekend. It's only once a month, but I'm getting stressed. Also, I started exercising, but the pressure is there to do it 3x a week and I get so tired. You know, they say it doesn't do any good if you only do it once or twice. Well, it's better than doing nothing. Argh.

Hi, cms39

Sorry to hear that you are having so much stress right now.

I was just wondering how long you have been taking Xanax? Has it been on a regular schedule of daily med's or just as needed?

I do not take Xanax only have taken Valium daily for 11 years now and the Doctors have tried everything to taper me down from my current dose of 40mg a day, and they seem to have no choice to continue to put it back up to my current dose of 40mg a day because my physical body can not withstand the withdrawl even with small decreases.

I just know the longer on these the more it seems difficult to reduce for me.

Hope you are feeling better today and get this figured out with the doctor.

Have a good day- Chris

boy can I relate. I also tried cutting back 1/4 of a milligram of my Xanax for two days. It worked but then on day two I had the makings of a major panic attack, so I am sticking strictly to the dosage I was on, which is relatively low. 0.5mg. The only reason I was tempted to cut back is because when I take 1/2 a tablet instead of a whole, I don't wake up with as bad a headache. Anyway, had to nip that in the bud fast. Don't know if I'm any help other than letting you know you're not alone in this battle with the Xanax.

The only other med I'm on on a regular basis is Prozac 20mg.

Take Care and wish you luck.

Yes, I have been on the same dose of Xanax for several years - I believe 8 or 9 years. I was on Ativan before that and Klonopin before that. Possibly, decreasing even by such a minute amount is not feasible right now. Thanks for listening.
