Please, someone must know some trick on how to take Imovane/Rhovane (7.5mg) without getting the most horrible bitter taste on my tongue that lasts all day. A friend of mine also uses the stuff but she said drinking a full glass of orange juice while taking the pill results in no more bitter taste in mouth. I have tried this a few times and it does not work on me. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bitter is "acidic" so if you can neutralize that that might help? I'd start with drinking some water with baking soda in it or brushing my teeth after taking with baking soda? Or maybe some milk? Eating a bite of a favorite cheese afterwards?

The opposite of bitter is salty. Maybe drink with V-8 or other "salty" drink?

Experiment.

thank you for the tips Perna Please Help!!! Imovane Bitter Taste I will try that next time. I did find a solution but you need the ability to use something starting from the the back of the tongue without gagging. This sounds sick, but I used a new scotchbrite pad (the rough side) and scraped my entire tongue. It actually worked!

I have taken Imovane and you cannot eat or drink anything to kill that metal taste is that what you are talking about? I would not scrub your tongue like that you may ruin your sense of taste long term. The side effect comes from within I read. Not everyone gets that side effect. Lunestra has I head the same kind of side effect

Dysgeusia (bitter, metallic taste) is the most common adverse reaction to Imovane.

It is generated from your GI tract, not your mouth. So drinking things to mask the taste or scraping your tongue with a scothbrite pad is not really that helpful. You shouldn't continue to scrape your tongue, you can cut your tongue which may lead to infection and further irritation.

One of the causes of Dysgeusia is Zinc deficiency. Ask your pharmacist about over the counter zinc lozenges. They have been shown to be the most effective treatment with the exception of stopping the medication.

I would suggest asking your doctor about him/her prescribing you something like prescription Zantac, Prilosec, or maybe Nexium. Either of those may help.
