I've been taking propranalol for anxiety for a couple of months now, and it's been great for me. I take 10mg BID, with food, and my anxiety -- which was through the roof -- is back to very manageable levels. I've also been taking Cymbalta for depression, which we titrated up to 90mgs, but backed down to 60mgs when the 90 made a lot of my symptoms worse.

We also added Wellbutrin. I've been taking 150mgs Wellbutrin XL for 7 days now, and will be going to 300mgs tomorrow. The addition of Wellbutrin already seems to be helping with the depression, although that's not entirely clear yet, but as well as being "activating", as they say, it seems to be counteracting the effects of the propranalol. My doctor told me that this could happen, so I was prepared for this eventuality, but I'm really not liking the result. Does anyone know anything about this? Is the effect transient, or dose dependant? Or might it be better if I took the Wellnbutrin in the AM and the propranalol later in the day? Or separate them by a couple of hours? Any advice?

Ironically, I told the doctor that I thought I was about ready to start taking the propranalol PRN before starting the Wellbutrin. Turns out, I was wrong...

Hi Gen,

I take Inderal LA (propr.) for anxiety as well. It only works for the physical symptoms, though. I take it to keep my heartrate and blood pressure steady. My dose is actually 80mg two times per day, and it's the time-release type script. If you want, you can get your doctor to up your dose....10mg two times per day is pretty low. For migraines, Inderal can be 240mg per day. So you've got quite a range to work with.

I'm so glad that you're finding 20mg to work so well for you. We all celebrate when someone finds some relief!!!!!!!!

Hugs,
Sandy
