I took this before and am considering taking it again. Since vistaril isn't supposed to be addictive, they had suggested this to me because they won't prescribe Xanax or valium at all in some places. I gave it a go. It seemed to be working somewhat, and they were going to up it later if all was well. But it did give me dry mouth, and I got tired earlier in the day than I should have. Do these side effects decline with time? Also, it seems to me this was building up in my body, because it didn't work when I first took it. Should it build up in my body?
Also, I know it's supposed to work as an anti-histamine, but I could swear it said it slowed down brain activity. I am imagining that or mixing it up with something else? Okay, and this next part might trigger some people............. still here? Okay, does this have sexual side effects? I know this isn't graphic, but assume to some people the word is enough. Anyway, I don't want sexual side effects. What anti-anxiety meds don't cause them? Thanks!

Do you know what really pisses me off?-doctors who will not prescribe medications such as xanax and valium when clearly people need them. I assume the government is somewhat to blame for this, they want to tell people what they can take and how much and they seem to be overly concerned with addiction. But people can become addicted to anything-alcohol, pot, coc, heroin. And in my opinion that is what happens, People with true illnesses such as anxiety disorders and depression end up self-medicating because some asshole doctor is afraid they will get in trouble for prescribing a drug that helps, such as xanax. In my opinion, xanax is a much better and safer drug than vistaril/atarax. And if the drug is taken as prescribed, the risk for addiction is small if none at all. Yes, you would have to gradually withdraw, but that can be done safely. If I were you, I would find another doctor who will give you the medication that works, a medication that is made to ease anxiety such as xanax or valium, and not vistaril/atarex.
