A friend of mine just moved to Central America and began taking a prescription sleeping pill down there (he had been taking Lunesta every night here in the States, as prescribed by his pdoc). He claims it works just as well, makes him less groggy in the morning, and costs much less. (I can't remember the name, his pronunciation was kind of hard to understand.)

Anyway this got me thinking--are there drugs other people out there have heard about and would like to try, but can't get prescribed in the U.S.? Also, assuming someone wants to go through route what is safest way to do so? (My first instinct would be online Canadian pharmacies.) It almost makes me crazy with frustration when I think there may be something out there which would work much better, with fewer side effects, but I can't get access to it because the FDA favors American over European pharmaceutical companies (or whatever the reason[s] may be).
