I started taking these on Thursday to help with shoulder pain as the pain has been ongoing since April 15th. Here is the issue....I am VERY rageful and VERY emotional. I LOST it today. I mean, I went completely off the wall.
I am so scared because it took my BF 3 hours to calm me down today and I have been hallucinating off and on for the last 2 days. I thought the police were going to come get me, I thought there was a dark figure in my bathroom while I was showering, I thought there were flies all inside my car...just to name a few. Anyways, enough of my story, I am just trying to find out if anyone else has had any sort of reaction? I am trying to just take one of the meds to see if I can rule one out until my BF calls the doc tomorrow for me. Thanks, BJ __________________ "The mind is like a parachute. I get that way when I take steroids. That is why I finally have my doctors trained not to give me steroids. I can take the Methylprednsione though just not straight prednisone. I do get psychotic taking steroids and have heard that it is common for people that have a tendency toward mental illness for steriod products for them to make them psychotic. I'd call your doctor in the morning.

Thanks Jbug!
My BF called the doc and told him how bad I have been. He said that it is def the Methylprednisolone and to stop taking it. He said that it is very rare for one to have that type of reaction, but not impossible. I feel really crappy today, too. I threw a HUGE fit and couldn't catch my breath. Eventually my BF helped calm me again. I am just glad to know that it is the pills and NOT me! No more of those stinkin steroids for me! Now I am off to T to tell her all about this mess. Thanks, BJ __________________ "The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open." Don’t look where you fall, but where you slipped. |

"def the metylprednisolone" ? That medicine takes a long time to build up in your body.
I have personally taken skelaxin and had terrible reactions, similar to what you did... Good wishes on this! __________________ |

Hmmm, he I was given the pack of Methylprednisolone that you take for 6 days, it is a pack and you take 6 the first day, 5 the next day, etc til it's gone.
He told me to keep taking the skelaxin, but not the Methyl... I'm sorry you had such a bad reaction to the Skelaxin, Sky!! So far I am ok just on the Skelaxin, just the normal drowsiness. I took today off of work and ended up sleeping until 10am after being up and down all night. I do get some nausea, but other than that the hallucinations are gone and the anger is gone, too. FINALLY, I am feeling a bit back to my own self and not feeling like I can't control my own mind. Thanks for the input. I go back to the doc on Friday so I will let you know how it goes! Medrol and methylprednisolone(which is a weaker steriod) make lots of people mean as a snake. I am a pharmacy technician, and when we council patients we always remind them that of the possible side effects. The most common ones are weight gain, anger, aggression, reduced immune response, and if taken long enough skin thinning. I had pretty much the same issue the last time I took prednisone 20mg for an old back injury that flares up periodically. I'm glad you are feeling better though.

Thanks Pharmtek. My pharmacist didn't mention any side effects or even ask if I had any questions. I guess because they know me, they think I will ask if I have any, but I didn't think to even find out about any major side effects because...well....I figured it was up to the Dr. or at the very least the pharmacy to tell me anything I should be careful of.
I am not one to take a ton of meds, so I didn't even think to ask about side effects of the Methylprednisolone. I guess you live and learn, huh?! __________________ "The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open." Don’t look where you fall, but where you slipped. |

All the time! the medrol dosepack is actually stronger and usually worse than regular prednisone for what it's worth. The dose pack is only 4mg per tablet, and the prednisone comes in strengths from 1mg up to 20mg. If you ever have to use an oral steroid again I would try the prednisone that isn't in the dose pack. Your doctor can prescribe it in a descending dose just like the dose pack with ease. That is what my doctor does for me when I have a recurrence of my symptoms. It also helps to spread them out over the day instead of taking them all at once...
