The article in the link discusses anti-depressants. Althought it gives some negative perspectives on the medications, this article is not meant to stop anyone from taking meds, especially when people can be helped from them. It is meant to inform.
Like all medications, anti-depressants do have the good, the bad, and the ugly sides. The important thing is for everyone who might be (or is considering) taking meds to discuss it with their physician. The benefits should out-weigh the advers effects. www.thestar.com Dated November 7, 2004 under the headline, "Antidepressants sold as cure-all". http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/Con...acodalogin=yes |

Great article thank you for sharing it. Hope you don't mind my opinions and experience.
![]()

Quote: The new group of antidepressants.... is approved in Canada and the United States to treat patients suffering major depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress and newer conditions called generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

I am on Zoloft. I suffer from 5 of the 6 disorders listed.

Quote: A review of medical literature reveals antidepressants are being prescribed, promoted or studied for a host of conditions including: weight loss, incontinence, alcoholism, cocaine dependence , stuttering, stealing, premature ejaculation, migraine headaches , pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, compulsive shopping, arthritis symptoms, sleep apnea, female sexual dysfunction, stroke recovery and fainting spells.

I was once told when in the hospital that I was being prescribed anti depressants for cocaine addiction. Too bad when it came down to me collecting my private disability insurance, I was on them for deppression. The insurance covered addiction, but not mental illness. Now that I read it, I have not suffered from a migraine in years. As far as people on anti depressants committing suicide....HELLO they are depressed. Suicide goes along with depression. To the woman in the article who was suing because she needed a liver transplant.... I wonder if her taking too many pills a few months prior to her liver failure had anything to do with her new illness?

I like hearing people's thoughts and experiences - thanks for your input. Glad to hear you haven't had a migraine for a long while. They are a pain, aren't they?
![]() The article does answer some questions, but also makes people questions more ![]() I totally agree with you about the woman, I had the exact same thought. Taking too many pills might cause some damage, regardless of what the meds are. She should take on some responsibilities for her own actions. |

Excluding the newer multiple reuptake inhibitors (like Wellbutrin), the antidepressants have made me feel about as sexy as a coffee table. I'm not sure how much more dysfunctional you can get after you have no libido. ![]()

I guess it depends on the meds. People react differently to different meds.
Thanks for the feedback. |
