I'm taking Topamax to help with depression and anxiety along with Effexor and Neurontin. I was on a low dose of 25 mg of Topamax for a month with no problem except sleeping more and decreased appetite but I didn't lose weight and it didn't seem to do much for anxiety. It was then increased to 50 mg just the past week and I've noticed itching and am wondering if it could be related to the Topamax. I haven't used any new soaps, lotions or anything else new or different. I've haven't called the Dr. yet about it because I've complained about other meds causing side effects and asked to go off them and probably shouldn't have and the last few meds she's given me, she's said to put side effects aside and try the med for awhile to see if it works. I wish I would've tried other meds longer in the past, but I lose patience too quick and request to stop them. But this itching is starting to get bothersome and I'm wondering if it's truly an allergy to Topamax. I don't take it for seizures, but just to help with depression and anxiety. Has anyone heard of this before? Any advice? Thanks

On the insert does it mention anything about itching, etc. as a side effect? I actually take 200 mg Topamax daily with no problem but everyone is different & you should trust your body & investigate what is going on. Many times the side effects do disappear, but they should be checked out, investigated so that you can be reassured if this is something that calls for discontinuation or not.
I had to discontinue Lithium for kidney malfuncion; Geodon for falling asleep while driving & EXTREME dizziness, Depakote because it didn't work for the depression, etc. Sometimes the medications work for some people not for others. Work in COLLABORATION with your doc. You are a valued member of the team. |
