I've only been taking Seroquel for 1 month and Topamax for 2 weeks, but feel like I'm sleeping my life away. I'm wanting to stop the Seroquel since it's responsible for my weight gain, but haven't talked to the doctor yet. Should I give them both more time or could I slowly go off the Seroquel on my own? I don't like sleeping so much. Seems like all I do is work and sleep.

Hi Bunny, I've been on Seroquel & Topamax for 3 years. Seroquel also helps me sleep at night so I take my doses at 5:00pm & 8:30pm. Some of the sleepliness wore off over months. It took me about 8 weeks to get the full positive effects of the medication. Now it works fantastic. Please don't go off of it by yourself, let your Dr. know your concerns & take his advice. In terms of wt. gain, how is your digestive tract working?
Topamax (also used as a weight loss aid) is noted to have the sleep, & tired side effects, but I have not experienced this. It took ~a month or more before I noticed a difference w/ Topamax. Unfortunately, most of these drugs do take a while before the full effect is felt, usually 6 - 8 weeks. Patience is truly a virture. PM me anytime!
Best of Luck

I was prescribed seroquel by my doctor for insomnia and take it every night. i usually take 25-50 mg at 10 o'clock. If i take it much later then it will still be working in the morning and i will feel awful till 11 or 12 in the afternoon.
