I searched before posting this, I promise, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I started taking Bupropion last week (150mg) and was just bumped up to 300mg five days ago.
All of a sudden I'm so jittery! My hands are shaking (making it difficult to even type this) and I've been extremely nauseated. I can't even read without getting seasick. I gave a presentation at school and couldn't even control my voice! I also can't really control my emotions; I feel the urge to cry randomly throughout the day. I'm also feeling a little MORE depressed and alienated than before I was on the meds. I really don't feel like myself. What should I do? This is only day 5. Part of me wants to stick it out, but it's really difficult. How long do side effects like this usually last? |

Hi soleilandjune,
If it were me I'd call my psychiatrist and tell them. I know everyone reacts differently, but I take Wellbutrin XL 300 mgs and never felt any of that. Better to talk to your doc. Hope you feel better soon. |

YES, had the same problem. My hands shake anyway, and it just got worse on Wellbutrin. Jittery and anxious, definitely.
My psychiatrist took me off it and we moved on to other drugs. Sticking it out may not help, so be sure to talk to your doc about the distress you're having. |

I found Bupropion to be way different than Wellbutrin. For me Wellbutrin is perfect and I feel good & normal all of the time. My Dr. promised me that Bupropion is the same however, for me, I found that it is not.
I highly recommend Wellbutrin. Quote:

Well, what your doc said is true...bupropion and Wellbutrin are the same drug. However, some people do report differences in the effectiveness of generics vs. brand-name meds. This might be especially noticeable if one is extended-release and the other is not. So yes, if generic bupropion seems to fall short of the brand-name, ask your doc to write the prescription DAW (dispense as written) for Wellbutrin. Be sure the price difference is affordable for you.

I take 4 psych meds. I suggest you talk to your dr. I take 300mg.XL in am and another 150 in pm before 3 pm so I can sleep. Bubropion at one time was all i took.. They gradually increased my dosage. The main side effect I had was a metallicy type taste in my mouth, it went away. But I do have a question , are you eating? You will be jittery if you don't eat on this med. They do not reccoment it for people who have eating disorders. And for a very few people it can cause seizures. Now I take 3 additional rxs so my mood stays stabilized and so I can sleep and not be so agitated. Call your dr. They are there for your questions and your mental and physical health is worth it.

Hi soleilandjune, I take Bupropion for ADHD. I took Bupropion 150 mg for a month and then began taking 300 mg (in two doses). When I moved up to 300 mg, I developed a tremor in my hands. It was hard to do things like turn the pages of a book. It didn't improve with time. I was glad I wasn't a surgeon. When I first started on 150 and again when I bumped up to 300, I was kind of hyperative, but this quieted down after a few days. So my only complaint was the tremor/shaking. I kept watch to see if it got worse if I skipped a dose or right after I took a dose (was it withdrawal or what?), but I never could figure it out. After a couple of months on bupropion 300, my PNP added a stimulant for the ADHD so she moved me back down to only 150 mg of Bupropion. Unfortunately, my hand tremor did not go away. However, I'm willing to live with it for now, as the drug is helping me in ways that are important to me. I consider the tremor an annoying side effect.
I have always taken generic Bupropion, but it is written into my prescription that Bupropion from one particular manufacturer (I think it is TEVA) is not permissible, as my PNP says that it is primarily this manufacturer that cannot seem to make the bupropion correctly. In general, my pharmacist gives me Bupropion made by Watson, and this works fine for me.
