Hi,
I'm on lamotrigine. Has anyone used and been successful with epival (I was on it), lithium or lamotrigine, for depression. I'm not on any anti-depressants -they made me high or didn't work. Does that mean I'm bipolar?

Mood stabilizers are sometimes added as an adjunct to an anti-depressant when treating unipolar depression. As far as the anti-depressants not working or making you feel "high" talk to your pdoc (please see a psychiatric not your GP or family physician for an accurate dx) & he/she can help you make a determination as to what the next step should be. Good luck. It was a long haul for me.--Suzy

i don't know if it's just speculation, but it has been said lamotrigine might also work as an antidepressant. usually lithium isn't used alone for depression, it is used to augment the effect of an antidepressant. about the other mood stabilizers i don't know, sorry.

if an antidepressant by itself makes you high, it could mean you're bipolar. that is usually when doctors put you on a mood stabilizer along the antidepressant.

you might want to talk to your pdoc or gp or whoever gives you these meds about whether you're bipolar or not.

Hi ouchouch. I went thorugh i think every anti depressant and they all made me worse. After almost 10 months my pdoc put me on lamictal. It started to help some. After about two months he explained to me that im bipolar. I asked him how, why am i. He said that i've probably been since younger i just didnt know. It was normal for me and those around me. But when the storm hit, the trauma from that brought it out full blown.

I'm not saying you have it cause the anti depressants arent working.

I'm on lamictal, lithium for moods and klonopin for severe anxiety. My pdoc tried adding an anti depressant to the mix, but it didnt work out. So i was takien off of that again.

I'd talk to your pdoc and let him know your questions about it. He'll be straight with you. If you dont undrestand, ask him to explain.

Wishing you the best with this
