Hi to all,
I'm good at helping others but not myself so I ask for opinions advice from users.
I'm in a difficult situation having suffered the toxic serotonin syndrome and left in the state for what all regard as an inhumane length of time - 13months. Left me with serious problems.
I react to all antidepressants since. Specialists want me to try olanzapine ( Zyprexa) to try and get some improvements.
I'm dubious as it's a trial and error for me and the consequences could be disastrous.
Thanks
Nick

Hi badger. I had to look it up to see if Zyprexa contributes to the syndrome you mentioned. I'm not a great researcher so I didn't find much to implicate that medication in Serotonin Syndrome. I found one report of there being an association, but that was in a patient also treated with citalopram & lithium.

I took a big dose of Zyprexa for years along with fluoxetine and never had such a reaction, fortunately.

Maybe I didn't answer your question well, and if so I apologize. I'm just going with what I know and what experience I have with this medication. It's a good one if you can curtail the body weight changes that can occur while taking it. Good luck badger.

Hi Nick, I take Zyprexa and I have not had problems with too many side effects. I had some pretty severe side effects from other meds, so I was relieved to find Zyprexa. But, I have only been on it a couple months so I am not sure about the weight gain and other long term effects of it. Good luck!

Hi Avmds & Depressme,
Thanks for your response, best answers come from users.
Avmds - you said nothing wrong no zyprexa wasn't involved, I'm trying it now as specialists have run out of options.
My drug reaction was from 2004-2005, when referred for an assessment I was on fluoxetine but since the SS I can't tollerate even a moderate dose SSRI, SNRI or tricyclic as they aggravate my whole body tremor, jaw, agitation etc. Like you said, many people are on high cocktail doses without the reaction, that's because it's not determined by quantity so it's unpredictable.

Depressme - I started 3 days ago at 2.5mgs, wasn't sedating kept waking up around 4am more agitated. 5mgs last night more dopey in the morning muscles have started to twitch and contract. Has the dopey side effect worn off for you - what dose? I'm supposed to try 10mgs.

Thanks to both and luck to you
Nick

Hi I've tried Zyprexa 2 different times. The first time was for a year and there were no side effects. The second time (several months ago) I tried it again and gained 17 pounds in 3 weeks. Of course, everyone is different. A lot of times a bit of extra weight is better than going without the proper medication.

Wishing you luck!

Dee

Nick, I ramped up to 12 mg in just a couple weeks. Now, I do not notice a doped up feeling in the morning and I am maintaining at 12 mg.

Holy cow!

I started taking Zyprexa earlier in the evening so it would be easier to get out of bed in the morning.

My appetite is out of control. About an hour after I take it, nothing in the kitchen is safe. I feel like I am starving and I have to eat.

I did not notice this before because I always took it and then went to bed right away.

WOW!
