For those of you who take benzos (Ativan, Xanax, etc) to sleep -- on nights you choose NOT to take it, do you sleep at all?

I am leaving on a mini-vacation for a few days and wanted to be on the road relatively early. The Xanax makes me nearly comatose, so I decided I wouldn't take it, to improve my chances of getting up on time. I set the alarm for 5 am, and went to bed (I thought) at 11 pm -- and here it is 1:45 and I have not even come close to sleeping. Or relaxed, for that matter. I'm now hypervigilant and hearing odd noises, etc.

Taking half of one still knocks me cold, so that's out.

Anybody else run into this?

candybear, oh, yeah, I have been where you are at and it is not good. I got off all benzos years ago and, after the initial shock of no longer having them, I felt a lot better.

No Candy I do not sleep at all sometimes. It often takes two days of being wide awake before I sleep depending on what dose I am on at the time. It's annoying so I am hearing your frustrations and sent you calming wishes at least.
