My blood pressure has taken a dramatic jump (205/111), scary. If the BP med does not work, I know they are going to want to drop my effexor xr a bit.

I have been on a dose of 600 mg. daily for the past 4 yrs, and on the med itself for the past 8 1/2 years. I was never going to go off this med if I could help it, but now it looks like I may have to at least reduce it.

Have any of you made a larger drop in your dose, say about 150, but have maintained a rather higher dose overall? Say 450 to 300, around there???

If so, how did it go? Did you have all the symptoms of withdrawal that everyone talks about? Did you supplement with anything, say prozac?

Thanks in advance for all your help...

You shouldn't have withdrawal effects if they reduce it slowly. And they know that so they shouldn't make you drop too much too fast. I'm not sure about your other questions though.

I was on Effexor and didn't like the way it made me feel after 6 months. I weaned myself off even slower than my family practice doc suggested. I didn't want the additional side effects of withdrawal! I went without any ad drug for a while and had a relapse in my MDD. I was on 225mg daily. I'm sure your docs are working together.... if you are seeing someone other than your blood pressure doc? I'm assuming you see a psychiatrist for a dose like the one you are on? I'd say, make sure you have a plan and be sure to keep track of your symptoms. Your doc (s) have to know what is the right thing to do with your situation, if you have trusted them before, and aren't sure now, ask a lot of questions.
