I have GAD and I also have had panic attacks. I have suffered from this for most of my life, but there are times when it goes away and then comes back. My doctor put me on lexapro 10mg and klonopin 1mg and I was feeling better and was able to sleep after not sleeping and not eating for 4 days. It was hell. Well I guess the lexapro started to work along with the klonopin which I have been takin for 4 weeks. Well when I went back to my doctor for a check up he told me to quit taking this me klonopin because the lexapro will take care of everything. I have been taking 0.5mg at night but I woke up this morning in fear and I was having a panic attack but I didnt take the other half of the klonopin because I dont want my doctor to get mad at me so basically I am not able to function. I dont know what to do. How can I ask my doctor to let me take the klonopin so I can have relief from this anxiety and panic? I was on klonopin for 4 years before and my anxiety went away, but I weaned myself off two years ago. My mom was killed in a horrible car accident two years ago and I think that all of a sudden I am starting to feel mass effects of that trauma and I am under alot of stress.

Anxietygirl,

Next time you see your doctor just let him know what you've told us, that you can't function without it. Give him a couple of options such as trying another med or upping the Lexapro or going back on the Klonopin. I would also suggest you get into therapy if you're not already. Know that you also have to find a therapist that fits. I'm highly biased towards pychoanalytic therapy because it is what helped me deal with my past trauma's and overcome complex PTSD and OCD as well as Anorexia and Bulimia. But your treatment is your choice, just try to do something apart from medication otherwise you'll always be dependant upon the meds.

Love and Hugs,
Tara
