Question Feb 19, 2009 at 10:55 AM
  #1
I was given Trazadone for sleep about a year ago. I took it for a while, but it made me so hungry. I wouldn't be hungry until I took it, then I would stay up and eat like crazy. I stopped taking it, but now I can't sleep. I was just wondering if anyone else has been on Trazadone, and had this problem. Also if anyone has any suggestions about other sleep aids, i would appreciate it. Thank you

I would try Ambien or even melatonin which is over the counter. Those are the only two medications that worked for me when i was dealing with insomnia. I had horrible side effects to the trazadone... I took half the dose of what my doctor told me to take and I started getting really dizzy, unable to talk or walk, and I passed out... When I woke up I was vomitting... I hate that medication.

Yeah I think you'll do good with that because it's a natural sleep aid. You can get it over the counter and I swear.. It works better then sleep aids that you have to get a script for. It's great. Let me know how you like it!

Any sedative has the potential to make you eat like crazy I think - at least from my experience.

I was up to 5 pills a day with trazadone and it didn't make me the least bit sleepy. It didn't appear to do anything at all to be honest.

You might want to ask to try Neurontin. It helped me with my sleep, letting me fall asleep very naturally and stay asleep.

Thank you everyone. I did try melatonin, it actually worked for me. I didn't think it would, but I was wrong. I should have listened to my mom when she told me to try it. I guess I was just being stubborn. I guess mothers are always right.

My pdoc told me to take 25-50 mg of benadryl a night b/c I got addicted to sleep aids. For me it worked better than prescription drugs but gave me dry mouth.
