Yes, I have. Also her family. I've found information about them, but my T always told me I should ask her instead. I felt too guilty so I told her I did it. She would rather have me ask her than for me to go sneaking around trying to find out about her.

Good question, though. I'd be interested in whether others google their T, and if you think it's right or wrong, healthy or not healthy.

I Googled her when I was trying to decide which Ts to call on a referral list. I found the website for the practice T and husband T run.

I found out a few other things, like conference articles she wrote, or which political candidates they donate to...it was weird, I was just looking for stuff like actions against her license or something like that.

I don't google her anymore, unless it's to see if the conference I want to attend happens to be the one she is presenting at. She now tells me this stuff because it would be weird to be there with coworkers and then OOPS here is my T talking about BIPOLAR!!!!! LOL

Yes. Both my old T and my new one.

With my old T, I have no idea what possessed me, but one day I started googling and found all kinds of stuff. Not bad just a lot of things I don't need to know. I found myself feeling angry and jealous that there was all of this information about her which was not therapeutic for me. I eventually talked with her about it, how I ended up feeling etc. But it really left me with a crappy feeling inside.

With my new T I googled her credentials and information about a book she authored. I wanted to check out that she wasn't a wacko since I had such a bad experience with my old T. I didn't find anything of much interest BUT I also made my search very limited because I didn't want to find/feel something I wasn't prepared for or that would be harmful to me.

There is so much info available out there it is certainly tempting to try to find out about these people who can be so mysterious. It can also be a double edged sword though...

Take care crystalrose

I did when I first started and was trying to figure out if she was the right therapist for me.

I googled my T and found out some things about her life as well, family ect, but I don't think I would ever get the courage to tell her about it. I was pretty good at navigating and finding out info but I felt totally guilty after for doing it.

I initially started by checking her license with the state board ect, then googled her.....

I don't do it anymore though because of the way it made me feel.... it doesn't matter anymore either.....must have been the whole new thing and the feeling that I needed to know more about her to feel more safe with her.

Hmmmm, speaking of that, I wonder if T's ever google their client's lol.....mine would not find anything bad, only a few articles I had written.....do you think we should ask our therapists that one??????? LOL

Crystal rose, maybe you can start your topic off that way, hey T have you ever googled one of your Client's?

*wipes brow* I thought I was the only person who did this. :P I have no clue what possessed me to do so, but I googled my current T just to see what I could find. I didn't find anything other than her picture on the website of the place where she practices, but other than that, I haven't found anything else.

Yes I've googled just about all my doctors including all the T's I've seen. Also checked the state medical board site to make sure they are licensed and don't have any corrective actions against them. One T told me that its taught in psych school that T's should have a low profile meaning its suggested they have an unlisted home ph# and do not allow anything about them to be on the internet. That is taught to them so they can protect themselves and family from the random psychotic patient who tries to attack or rape the therapist. Its happened in history though its not that common. However my current T said she believes you get the energy that you put out so she won't feed that "fear" energy. Meaning she doesn't keep her homeph# private and she says she's never been stalked or approached inappropriately by clients and she's been practicing something like 30 years.

Another T was talking to me about it too. I think I might have said I tried to look you up but couldn't find anything. Which she then gloated about and was very proud that she hid her tracks as she called it. That said, I have a friend who works for police dept. I swear that woman is paranoid about everyone. Well she told me about this little known site to track people down and it doesn't cost anything. Through that site it allowed me to know one T had a son with drug and criminal charges ...sorry but shouldn't T's be able to keep their own children sane and abiding by the law? I also discovered that both T's and almost all of my medical docs have extensive traffic violations to the point of being sent to traffic school a couple times. Not to be judgemental, but shouldn't they of all people know better? I looked up random friends and relatives and none of them have traffic records like my T's and docs do. So apparently being a T in particular makes you think you don't have to follow traffic laws. What does that say about the person and their ego?

Hard to resist isn't it? I think sometimes too much knowledge about others is dangerous. I won't post the site here because it shouldn't become too public. I will PM it to you in a little bit though.
