I just found the dissertation that my T wrote for her grad school, and was able to read it!
Have any of you found any dissertations or writings by your T?

No but in chatting with her I found out that she has had some involvement in post graduate research. That is cool that you found her dissertation. Was it on a topic related to your Dx or issues?

It's called "The Impact Of Core And Balance Leisure Activities On Family Cohesion And Adaptability "
It's actually really interesting so far! It's kind of cool to see my T's research and writing! ![]()

cool!!
i am sure i could do a search for it, but i read enough psych stuff to be bored to tears by dissertations. i think pdoc did his on alcoholism (just a guess, but that was his initial speciality), and Austin-T is doing his on concussions in footy players. pdoc got asked to re-write his because it didnt pass the first time around, and Austin-T is thinking of quitting his because he can't get promoted further anyway (got the top job he was aiming for... so nowhere to go unless he changes organisations). i am going to do my theoretical thesis on applications of fuzzy logic to measurement in psychology (w00t! what a blast! ![]() |

I kind of found it by accident. I was doing a search on psychological research, dissertations, etc, and BAM, I saw her name. It was kind of cool.

^ definitely. i've come across some of Austin-Ts research already, and it was nice. i would probably read it if it was on an interesting topic like your T's.

Chaotic, I just realized I pretty much ignored your question and went on with my own irrelevant ramblings...
As I've been reading, I've noticed that what she wrote ties in a great deal to one of the issues we're currently discussing. No wonder her insight is so helpful to me in this situation. ![]()

But then you'd have more information for the "blind spot" paper!

deli is right, it's a lot more than just crazy people and therapy (which is what most people expect). there is so much more normal information to learn than there is abnormal. be prepared for that. also be prepared to learn all about statistics and research.

I know. I've already taken some of my psych classes, and I know there's more to it than just therapy. Plus, T and I have talked about what I should expect, what i will be doing, etc. I'm not going into this major blind.

My therapist is a p-doc so I wasn't expecting to find a dissertation from him anywhere. Ended up finding that he had done a Masters thesis in Philosophy, however. Sort of... Approximating the traditional analytic philosophy of mind that I do (or that I'm qualified to do). I... Thought about trying to get hold of it and having a read but I guess I thought that not much good would come of it. I'm fairly 'picky' about what constitutes better or worse work in the area and I think I'd feel let down in some way if I read it. I know that he has moved on from that topic now at any rate (and he doesn't seem to understand terribly much about what I say on it).
He gave a seminar on Lacan just this year, I saw. I guess I'd be kinda interested to know what he makes of that (since I don't do that style of philosophy and I've never read any Lacan). Probably won't ask him anything about it though. Lol. |
