Had to share - just got a call from T (always nice to hear her voice). I saw her name on caller ID, and my heart sank - I thought she was calling to cancel our session this evening! But no, she was calling to see if I could come in 45 minutes early and then end our first double session at our usual time, instead of going 45 minutes later. It works out okay for me, I'll just go straight from work, but I wonder if this will be a weekly thing - not sure I like it, as I was counting on having time to go home after work and change into comfy clothes. Now I'll be going to see T right from work.

This also plays into my insecurities that maybe T doesn't want to do a double session, that maybe I talked her into it last week before she had a chance to really think about it, and now she's regretting making that commitment. Something else strange, T usually has the same patient before me every week, so something weird happened with the schedule.

All things to discuss with T tonight, I know! And on top of that, I'm excited and nervous to start the groundwork for the EMDR tonight!

My guess is that the client before you canceled, and T decided to see if you'd come in early so she wouldn't have 45 minutes of doing nothing. I do hope that you tell your T your fear of "talking her into" doing the longer appointment with you. It seems like it keeps coming up for you, and it would be really reassuring to hear her say that it's not the case.

Thanks for this!

Like Treehouse said the schedule change likely has more to do with another patient's issue or your Ts personal schedule. I would consider this as an indication that your T DOESN'T think you are neurotic and that you can easily adapt to the change. I would just assume it has nothing to do with her wanting or not wanting to do the double session.
Thanks for this!

Tree, I'm sure you're correct. And I will definitely address with her my concerns that she agreed to do double sessions without thinking it through. I do need that reassurance! Thanks!

I agree it is probably nothing to do with you, that the pt before cancelled and she just thought seeing you earlier would be better for her. Talk to her about it- I am sure she will reassure you , and you seem to have good relationship with her, so I am sure this is not about her trying to avoid you. Good luck for tonight
Thanks for this!

you have a very vivid inner world! i wont venture any guesses as to why your therapist asked for the time shift, i just hope that you go in with an open mind and talk to her about all the things that went through your head.

I hope that the session does go well and that you start laying the ground work for EMDR. I have been doing pieces of EMDR mixed in with IFS for a while and am finding it hard but helpful.

Interested in knowing what you think and how it all goes...
