My totally wonderful pdoc, who I have been seeing for 6 years, went on a leave of abscence from the hospital. I had to see a replacement pdoc assigned by the hospital who had agreed to cover her patients. He was horrible. He was cold. He hadn't read my chart. I told him I was SU and all he did was ask if I'd ever made a serious attempt and social supports. He basically just renewed all my meds and had me out of there in 15 min.

Then tonight I learn from my psychologist that she's heard through the grapevine, that my pdoc is leaving the hospital completely - that she's been coming in on weekends taking down her diplomas and packing up her office. AUAGH SHE CAN'T ABANDON ME!

She'd told me that she was thinking about going into private practice, and that's what my psychologist said she heard she was doing, but I have no idea when she'll be set up and seing patients again. And I have no way to get in touch with her.

You think a reputable psychiatrist would make sure about refering her patients appropriately or contacting me with her new practice information right? I'm just feeling so abandoned and scared. It's so hard to get a good pdoc who is experienced with trauma. And the worst part is I'm in a crisis at the moment and could really use her.

I know exactly how you feel. My Pdoc of 8 years decided to close his practice and move out of state. I was devastated. The difference with my experience is that he told me 4 months in advance and gave me several names for Pdocs. I do miss him. But I found the perfect PDoc. I liked her so much that I quit with my T and do therapy with her too.

Maybe you can get referrals and check out new ones. Or maybe she will accept you into her new practice.

Good Luck.

I'm so sorry that your Pdoc is closing up/leaving the hospital so quickly. It sounds like something must have happened or she would have referred you to another pdoc and terminated your work in a reasonable manner. If she does set up a private practice, you might try to find out information about it through the hospital (they might have contact information), through your insurance company (if she takes their insurance in private practice) she will need to be listed with them. So there are a couple of ways you can see if she continues to work, and may be able to transfer to her practice.
I hope that even if you are not able to switch (or not right away) that you are able to find someone better than this last guy you saw. He seems like he doesn't want the responsibility of seeing extra patients. You should talk to the hospital clinic about that. I hope it all works out. .
