OMG! Welcome back, Deli! How was it? Did you bring me a souvenir????

My grandfather lived in Japan and had a wife and child (then married my grandmother later in America...nuff said...) and I have Japanese relatives (I am not Japanese). I have some beautiful Japanese antiques in my house But I want something from DELI!

yaaay!! thank you for the warm greetings .

to keep us on topic - yes, i brought something back for austin-t and pdoc. austin-t wanted a coin from an antique shop, or a woodblock (thanks for making my shopping difficult, austin-t ), and then i had to get something for pdoc to be fair, so he just got some green tea. i feel a bit odd giving something to pdoc and i wouldn't have usually, but austin-t asked for the coin specifically, so i had to get something for pdoc too. a woodblock would have been easier to find, but you can't bring wood items back into australia.

the trip itself was pretty good!! i had this expectation that things would be really different and that i would feel like i was some place different, but it just felt like hanging out with my friends for 2 weeks and seeing cool things. our flight got cancelled on saturday night, so i had an extra day in japan. i was so happy to have an extra day (the airline is covering the extra costs incurred) but my friends got pretty stressed because they were expected back at work on mon. im still trying to get my bearings being back at home, so i dont know how they would have managed at work today (i woke up past lunch).

i'm lucky it was a short(ish) trip, because i definitely started to notice the meds wearing off towards the end. it felt really weird to go back into that depression bit - not bad, but just a bit teary and stuff. pdoc only gets back at the end of the month, but i'm thinking maybe i should start my meds again earlier. i might see austin-t next week and see how things are going from there.

i feel really good about the trip itself, though. it felt good to just look after myself for two weeks, and also wander around in a country where i didnt speak the language and still survive! makes me want to go travelling more, and also makes me believe in myself a bit more.

would post photos, but i took over 1000, and i havent even looked at them yet. next time i'll have to take down your addresses and send postcards. japan's a really cool place - hope i can go back some day during spring/autumn and be a bit more relaxed and delve into the culture. as it was though it was pretty awesome. first snow happened on NYE while we were waiting at a shrine for the bells to ring in. i havent seen snow since i was 12, so it was pretty special.

((((Deli)))It sounds like an amazingly cool experience. And I love that you had the freedom to experience looking after yourself and believing in yourself. You CAN do this!

And when you go back...I'll be hiding in your suitcase.....

lol, bluemoon. i am scared to return to austin-T because i know he'll bundle me back off there if i even hint at the possibility of returning. he lived there for a few years and he has this crazy idea that i'm going to follow in his footsteps.

he told me to call when i got back to arrange sessions again, but i'm putting it off (dreading it, actually). i know we only have difficult work ahead of us.
