So today, i had a phone session...and it was acutally more productive that a in person session....I got more out of my system in the phone session than i had in 5 face to face sessions....Being at college, it nice to have the option of phone sessions and to be honest i was skeptical but it went really well.... has anyone else done phone sessions? and how are ur feelings in comparison to face to face?

I have been having phone sessions with my Philly T since I moved in December. She's been calling every other week usually for a full 45 minute session to check on progress here of finding a new T. I have found a new T (though maybe not now... confusing!) and actually this Thursday will be my last phone session with my Philly T.

I like phone sessions. I think to a certain degree they make it easier to communicate because I don't feel like T is staring at me or whatever. I also think sometimes it's not as good because Im the patient who tends to hold things back but I will often show what I'm really feeling in my nonverbal communication. Phone sessions don't allow Ts to see our body language, facial expressions and what-not so they are good but they are limited in another sense. All-in-all, I like them. i think they have their place in the psychotherapy world but I do think traditional T sessions are also important depending on the issues and what-not. Glad you're able to continue with your T while at college... a lot of Ts won't do phone sessions.

:-) Bless your heart!!! Well - if you need to call about the other issue - I say to do it if you can :-) I am all for getting as much help as a person needs. :-)

I also find it much easier to talk during phone sessions. I think my T doesn't like them quite as much as the face to face kind, but I personally prefer them.

My t doesn't like them very much, but we've been known to have them (usually late at night when I'm falling apart). I don't really prefer them though. So much information is passed through facial expression and body language.

I've had phone sessions before, they are helpful as you are able to say more without getting a certain look from the T.

I once had a phone session with my former T and like you, I found it better than many of our face to face sessions because I was less inhibited. I talked to her more freely because she couldn't see my blush! I really got a lot out of it. I remember asking her about our relationship, and about why we couldn't be friends. That was so much easier to talk about on the phone than in person.

However, I needed to learn how to communicate in person with my T, so I wouldn't have wanted phone sessions regularly!
