Anyone else here doing emdr?
My t does it with me occasionally, usually when I'm stuck on a trigger and can't ground myself or something (an emotion, memory) just isn't "moving" on its own. The emdr helps stir things up and move it through. She also uses the hand buzzers to do some guided imagery--sort of like deep relaxation where I just spend some time in my safe place to calm me, but we don't process any memories. What I'm wondering...do you have a big reaction during the emdr itself? Or does the reaction come later? For me, I just sort of go through the emdr process during session and then everything moves and settles in the 24-48 hours afterward. Almost like I'm turned upside down and shaken and then the pieces slowly settle back into the correct places. Can anyone relate? |

I have had both experiences with EMDR. Recently though I am really feeling things during the EMDR because I am working on some intense trauma memories. But even then things still continue to process for a couple of days. For me 3 days is the magic number! lol But I am also comfortable in showing emotion with my T now, so I allow myself to go there during EMDR.
My T uses the hand buzzers mostly but also taps on my knees sometimes. |

I do EMDR with the hand buzzers pretty frequently with T, and have been doing it for years. I feel it intensely during the sessions physically. I'll experience a lot of muscle pain, start twitching etc. After EMDR I'm usually pretty energized even when we've been working on really traumatic stuff, but then it usually hits me a day or two later, and I have to work really hard on compartamentalizing in order to not be overwhelmed with feelings.
