Has anyone heard of it or tried it? It doesn't look that difficult and certainly worth trying? It combines Mind Body Medicine and Acupuncture (without needles) with tapping. At this point I am will to try almost anything, lol!

I asked my T about this but he has no experience in it. He just said it was costly.

My t taught it to me and i tried it, but i couldn't really mentally accept that just tapping in certain spots on the body would solve anything. It just seemed too simplistic. (My bad attitude, I know, like "If it's too easy, it can't work). I probably should have given it a better try.

I just looked at the website. It looks a bit like snake oil to me.

I saw a therapist who did EFT for one session several years ago. I actually didn't know she did EFT until I got there - I was just looking for a therapist. I was skeptical when she brought up the approach, and told her so. She responded by (somewhat nastily) saying, "Well, perhaps you're just not ready for this intense of an approach." I left in tears (I'm definitely a sensitive person, though). Phew, that felt good to say. I've never talked about that with anyone for some reason.

That aside, I'm a believer in the idea that what works for you, works for you. I think that "buy-in" is an important part of any therapy. I have to be on the same page as my therapist (for the most part) for things to be helpful. If you're going in with an open attitude, it doesn't seem like there's much to be lost.
Thanks for this!

I am sorry she bad you feel bad! I am very sensitive too so I certainly understand. You are absolutely right, you have to buy into it. Sometimes when I have anxiety or panic I can feel it in parts of my body so the concept of releasing it (as energy) seems to work for to me. Just the thought of tapping and concentrating on a release, any kind of release seems to make sense to me, even if it is just psychosomatic. I see it as the same concept as EMDR?

Thanks, Xtree!

It does sound like EFT could work well for you, or maybe another energetically-oriented therapy. It doesn't really matter if it's psychosomatic, so long as it works, right? Do you have someone you can make an appointment with?

Several years ago a friend of mine was describing EFT enthusiastically but now I'm a bit puzzled. What she seemed to find most helpful was the affirmations, in the form "Even though __________, I deeply and completely accept myself". When I looked at the website(s) she linked me to and asked what the tapping part was all about, I could've sworn she said she seldom bothered with it but just kept doing the affirmations.

I've always found affirmations more interesting (for want of a better word) than physical contact of any kind. If I hadn't actually tried affirmations I would've expected them to work something like this: you keep repeating an affirmation that you'd like to believe and eventually you start to believe it. The times I have tried affirmations, though (mostly ones suggested to me in the course of guided meditations and such) I've found that they almost always worked backwards for me. If the affirmation said, for instance, that I loved myself, what would come up without fail would be different ways that I didn't love myself. I'd get to look at those and deal with them during the rest of the meditation and when I was done I would no longer care if I loved myself or not. At that point I'd find I was no longer all tangled up in issues around loving myself or not, and finally had room to choose. [/ridiculous oversimplification]

I personally did find that effective but it was years before EFT, certainly wasn't billed as EFT and, I gather, was quite different from EFT. In the light of that experience, I've never much wanted to try real EFT.

I have had personal experience with a counselor doing EFT and at first it seemed a bit weird but as I progressed I KNEW-for myself-it was beyond weird and extremely fishy on top of it. EFT counselors arent interested in talking with you, their beliefs are that you do the tapping on the meridians and repeat their words and voila! youre cured. I tried hard to remain open minded but after about 6 sessions I just could not handle anymore and never went back. he combined essential oils with this, which i find to be helpful but for my own reasons and not for what he was using them for. Best I can say I guess is go with your gut instinct and see what happens. Im not sorry I tried it but I wont ever do it again either.
