I posted here a few weeks ago, about if I should write my old pdoc, and I decided to. I got her new hospital address off of the college of physicians and surgeons website. I basically sent her a letter, thanking her for being a great pdoc to me. I told her that I had been hurt by her just disappearing, but that I had assumed that the terms of her departure from CAMH precluded her from talking to clients. I said I hoped she was healthy as one of the rumours I had heard that she'd had a breast cancer recurrance, and I shared a bit about the referal fiasco I went through with CAMH and gave her a quick update on how I was doing now. I didn't really expect to hear back from her.
I got back a letter from her today. It was very carefully worded, obviously the terms of her leaving CAMH were even worse than I'd heard, but she did confirm that she was cancer free, which I was happy about, and she gave me the names of a whole slew of psychiatrists with specialities in trauma and concurrent disorders, in case I decide I can't work with my currently assigned pdoc. So at least now I feel like I have a starting point for finding a new pdoc, if I go that route, although I'm increasingly warming to my new pdoc.
