I went outside of my comfort zone today-------I made an appointment with a therapist locally to hold me over until I can get back to my regular T!

I see him on Nov 24, just in time to prepare for the dysfunctional family Thanksgiving lol

Yeah, I'm scared to death. I'm frightened... a grown man, frightened of a stranger therapist, lol. Silly, because really it's not as bad as it sounds.
I've accepted that my feelings are good, normal, and perfectly SANE.
It is what it is. I'm glad to share the news with my PsychCentral peeps.

I am a brave penguin
Thanks for this!

Way to go Penguin! Way to be brave! That's so far out of my comfort zone, I don't think I would have even thought of it. You are braver than I.
Thanks for this!

Awww don't make a penguin cry!
You share way more than I do on these boards. Maybe I can open up someday like you do.
Thanks for this!

Yes definitely. I hope my report is that of a good experience. Never do know how these things will go. I've seen enough T's who behave badly to know the difference at this point. I'll recognize a bad T immediately, thanks to my personal experiences

At least it will be a little adventure. If he's a jerkwad, I'll make sure I jet and mark his name off the list
Thanks for this!

I did this somewhat yesterday...I spilled my guts out to my friend. These were all good things, feelings of self-reflection; not a clinical emergency. She is in graduate school for psychology, so while she is a friend, she does still understand the psychological nature of my problems. I did it to sort of "tide me over". It really helped.
Thanks for this!

Senatorpenguin,

Yes, you were brave! I'm so glad you made the decision that would be best for you. . . caring for your needs is so important. OOOOOH, I know that anxious butterfly in the stomach feeling when it comes to meeting a stranger and knowing you'll be talking about personal stuff. Just keep reminding yourself of your bravery. You were brave enough to set up the appt, and you're brave enough to follow through on it! Hope it goes well for you!
