Hi guys.
I saw the new temporary T today (the one I made an appointment with to "hold me over" until I can get back to seeing my regular T). I am not impressed. I don't know what, if anything, he has to offer. Without even knowing my complicated back story, he came to conclusions that weren't even close to being accurate OR helpful. If I SAY that SOMETHING ISN'T SO, and he SAYS IT IS, that is ********. He doesn't know a damn thing. He also didn't answer my questions about privacy and he took a lot of notes. I didn't feel comfortable and obviously this guy isn't going to work. I'm angry and sad. It's also Thanksgiving tomorrow and my family isn't doing anything because my grandmother broke a bone and the rest of the family is in pieces, dysfunctional. Great. Waste of bloody time. |

((Penguin)) When do you get to see your regular T? Sorry to hear your experience was less than great.

I don't like being told that things are one way when they really are another. I find that a problem with both listening and communicating. Especially when it comes to hard facts about my life. He's an arse in that regard, even though he probably meant well. Too authoritarian. Don't like that. The guy doesn't even KNOW me. Who is he to make judgments? Makes me want to run away run away run away run away yeah you get the point. I'm planning on making an appointment as soon as I can figure out how to get to my regular T. I might just take a day off (i've got a lot of vacation days I've stockpiled) or see if he has a Saturday open. His office is like, 2 hours from me now, and also my transportation has issues (car needs work, don't know if I can trust it for the drive). Can't just head out after work to see him because he's so far away. Makes me upset. Not doing anything for the holidays makes me upset too. I understand now why my friend gets stoned all the time-- to not feel bad. Too bad getting stoned backfires. |

I'm sorry you are in such a bad place right now and speaking from experience getting stoned does backfire. Can you find another T closer to you?

Yes, I can always look for another local T, but I'm not sure I want to. I think I want to see my current T in spite of the distance/money. |

Aww, Penguin, I'm sorry that things didn't work out well with this other T and that your Thanksgiving isn't anticipated to be a family oriented event.
Is it possible that your regular T can do a phone session with you prior to you getting a chance to have a face-to-face appointment? It might hold you over until you can get the appointment and get your car worked on. Seems like you have a lot going on that's stressful. I hope you can find a way to take care of YOU....and that you can make the best of your Thanksgiving. __________________ Don't follow the path that lies before you. I've never done a phone appointment, and I'm not sure how that would make me feel? I have a hard time communicating over the phone. I'm shy in some regards. I also have issues with trust and I don't like to have phone conversations because of that (long story), although I'd be willing to break through that glass with my T. I'm failing my classes, which I'll be shelling out a huge amount of money for if I fail, not to mention the future consequences of such a failure. I'm hanging on by a string in some regards at work. I'm looking for a new place to live. I'm struggling with how to juggle and cope, but overall considering the circumstances I'm not doing too shabbily. My psychdoc gave me a new diagnosis a few months ago-- Seasonal Affective Disorder. Might be why I have problems in the winter Pdoc wants me to take antidepressants, but I don't like how they make me feel and I don't like how you have to taper off of them or it becomes unsafe. I also have struggled with suicidal feelings in the past when I was on them which doesn't make any sense--and I don't want to go there because I don't feel suicidal at all and I'm scared to risk certain things. Posting here is helpful. I'm glad I found this place. |

Well, temp-t was a dud. Sorry, that sux. I am sure there are several others in your area you can test drive, maybe find a model that works for you
Sounds like you have quite a few personal things going on, and it would be really helpful if you could talk to your T. I hope you find a way of getting out to meet with him. As far as the antidepressants, I have tried several, and they all work differently for everyone. Just because one made you suicidal doesn't mean another one will. After trying several ad's my pdoc tried me out on a mood stabilizer. That was weird because I am not bipolar, but it worked. Just goes to show you that there are plenty of options out there. good luck with all of this, and keep us updated! __________________ never mind... |

I'm sorry the temp T didn't work out, though maybe you could give him another chance and tell him what you didn't like about how he handled the session. It doesn't sound like you want to do that, though.
I was also going to suggest phone sessions. Since you like your T so much, maybe you could do some work on the phone, and see him less often. Maybe it's worth fixing your car so you can go. Two hours one way is a lot, though, especially in winter. I'm sorry I don't have any good answers for you. I'm racking my brain, though! For what it's worth, I know I've said this before, but maybe not to you since you're new here, I NEVER thought I'd be able to quit my T who I saw for over 5 years. But I did, and new T is so much more what I need than my other T. Can your T recommend someone he thinks you'll fit with? Or did he recommend the temp one? I'm glad you ended up with cousins you like for Thanksgiving! I'm also glad you found this place too!! |

Red flags: Didn't listen. Didn't answer questions about privacy and danced around the privacy topic. Thought he knew the answer so easily when it is very complicated. Wrote down a bunch of stuff that WAS NOT what I said. L O S E R. LOSER. LOSER. No way- no more of this douchebag! The one who recommended the Temp T was my work's EAP (Employee Assistance Program). They don't know me from squat, they just said he's a guy, he is in our EAP program, and has ADHD listed as one of his specialties. In truth the guy is probably geared more toward children with ADHD from what I gathered from my experience with him (Lego's Temp T, RALLY?) He promptly told me I could not play with them (Holy BeGEEZUZ, like I'd really want to?? Come on! Get real dude! He was like talking to one of those dolls where you pull the cord to make it speak! No, only my T will do for now. He is the only one who knows me and what I've been through. I was getting somewhere before I had to move, you know, connecting and stuff. Then I moved to a land that feels far, far away... And here I am, trapped. Interesting dilemma. |
