if you read ""encouraging words" thank you. now, just because I write this new note doesn't mean the other one isn't true. It is very true and I still believe it but, I need to ask a question.
do you think some people are more likely to get depressed then others? I'm an HSP. stands for highly sensitive person, They are born with a nervous system that may see, hear, smell or feel more than others. As adults, they may also think, reflect, or notice more than others. HSPs need to learn to appreciate their sensitivity in less stimulating ways. I am an HSP. Otherwise known as a Highly Sensitive Person. I have a heightened awareness of subtleties in my environment, whether it's sight, sound, touch, taste, or smell...therefore, my reactions to these subtleties are much more dramatic than someone who is not an HSP. I'm not just sensitive mentally but, biologically. They say about 20% of Americans have this, its more of a trait, its not a disorder, in fact, highly sensitive people are usually very gifted."" With that said, I keep getting depressed. do you think some people are more likely to get depressed then others? even when things go good, I get depressed. I am spending more of my time, fighting to be happy, or keeping optimistic ... but, if I really stopped smiling and laughing and TRYING to be happy...then I would know I'm not depressed. In fact, I will keep being optimistic but, I'm tired of TRYING to be happy. I just want to BE happy. It's late.. thats why I write this, because I can't sleep and I know I'm still depressed, even if no one in my life sees it. I feel like there is something wrong with me. I was in therapy for all of 2010 and yeah, I got better but, I'm still depressed. ![]()

I think as HSPs we are definitely more prone to feeling any feelings (depression, anxiety, happiness, etc) and feeling them more deeply than the average person. Sorry for the short cop out answer but it's also late here - I just wanted validate your thought because if you conceptualize what an HSP is.. it just makes sense that we would be more likely to feel depressed as HSPs. Granted I can't back it up with any research but I'd love to read it if anyone has got it!

I think I'm a HSP - on top of my own emotions, I tend to take on other's emotions as well. Making me a walking time-bomb.
I am naturally going to pick up if someone is depressed, even if they refuse to admit so.

I am probably HSP as well and I know I am prone to feeling/perceiving things in my environment, particularly the emotional environment around me, quite deeply.....I think that this does lend itself to deepening or prolonging my depression.
And yes, I do think that some have more of a depressive tendency than others....and also that a lot us here have been in dysfunctional environments that have brought out that tendency more than it might otherwise have been. I understand how you feel about just wanting to BE happy, not always have to be TRYING to be happy..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I find it entirely likely that certain personalities and such would be prone more to depression. When one is sensitive to their environment, it could have an impact on them emotinally.
