Yesterday morning, I had my first session with the T that I was referred to. She was an indvidual one. My husband and I went in and it just was SO odd. She had the big old couches, no pictures on the wall, not a thing. She was a you know what on the phone when I made the appointment and we got in there and she looked at my information sheet. Then just DOVE right into question about my mood swings. There was no "how are you? Nice weather, I'm so and so". NOT A THING!!! I freaked out and my husband was freaked out so I picked my purse up and said "You know what, I can't do this" and walked out and left. Took a drive then came back to pick my husband up 5 minutes later.

Back to square one....

Next appointment with a new T who sounds SO nice on the phone is Monday (6/20) at 5:00.

I still feel like a walking weirdo....

Sorry you did not like the T. It can take awhile to find one we feel comfortable with.

That's very strange, but I'm glad you walked out instead of making yourself sit there for the whole session talking to someone you aren't comfortable with. Hopefully the new T is much much better

That's good that he went with you...sometimes it helps to have a second opinion.

Therapy is for the person that wants to feel better and could use the help of a trained professional to help her reach that happiness. Nothing to be ashamed of...all kinds of people with many, many unique issues seek therapy.

It takes time...focus instead right now on finding a therapist whom you connect with and feel comfortable talking to. The rest will come in its own time.

I didn't mean for that. If you are not comfortable, walk out and find another like I am doing : ) Good luck!

Hey ,

that T didn't sound very personable, I think she would scare many people off! At a first session most T's know how hard it is for the client and do what they can to make the client feel as comfortable as possible. It sounds like this T is quite abrupt! I am very glad to hear you were able to arrange an appointment to see someone else and I think thats also a brave thing for you after how today felt! I am pleased that this other T sounds more positive!

Wow, that lady doesn't sound like she has any interpersonal skills at all!! Sounds like a good thing you are not going back. I'm glad you have your husband's support.
Its great that you're going to try again with a new T. I really hope it goes MUCH better. (I had to try out EIGHT T's before I found the right match... but don't worry, you will find somebody!!)

I really don't want to go back to another T but my husband thinks it's best. I have a feeling he thinks I am crazy but he says I am not.

I'm impressed that you left. That's trusting your instincts! I spent a whole year seeing a psych I was not comfortable with before I realized that I could choose to see someone else, but I knew in the first five minutes she was not for me. You did great!

I hope the new T works out better for you.
