I have been in therapy with the same counselor for six years. She has helped SO much, but I feel that I am on an even keel right now. The problem is I'm afraid that if something bad happens (serious illness or death of a loved one) it would send me into a serious tailspin. When I first started seeing her, we had to get special approval from my insurance because she is not a provider. If I would quit and then go back, I'm not sure they would approve. I guess I could go to someone else, but our relationship is really good and I'd hate to lose that. I could sure use some opinions, if anyone would like to share. Thanks

Could you take a break and see how it feels? A couple of months ago I took a break for about a month. It was a really good way for me to see that I could stand on my own, and that I still needed to work on a few things with T. So, I wonder if taking a break would help clarify for you whether you're ready to stop? |

yes, taking a short break seems like a good way to evaluate how you would handle stopping at this point......seems like a good compromise with the insurance issue too as just taking a break wouldn't be like quitting and surely you wouldn't lose the special approval you have for a month or 6 week break, I'd think....
