Well, I feel a bit embarrassed to even be posting this, but I just checked the mail and found that I had only received bills. My T has been away for two weeks and I see her again on Monday, so my adult self knows that just because she didn't send a card(like she did last year when she was away) doesn't mean she doesn't care. The little kid part of me, however, is feeling sad and thinking that maybe she forgot me. I really don't like feeling this way and was wondering if anyone else ever went through this? Thanks!

Sometimes postcards can take awhile depending on where your T went...
Thanks for this!

I sometimes wonder why therapists "say" that they care and will send a card or letter. Reality. . . who of us send a postcard to acquaintances, gentle friends, people who we case about but aren't are family? . . . .Not too many in my experience! I'm not saying that I think that our therapist don't care about us. I know they do ... .but it is definently related to our ability to PAY for that care and concern. I don't fault that. Heck, I want to be paid for the work I do, but it's hard when the "work that they do" is related to empathy and caring. . .. relality? . . . People in the mental heath industry care about us as long as they are paid . .. and for a short time after (usually three to four months after the last pay check). Am I angry or disrepectful of that fact? Absolutely not! Would I be ticked off if my SSI payment was late? Yes? (I don't get SSI but many of the client I work with do), but I do understand their confusion or anger if what they expect in regard to services isn't provided because of cuts and/or eliminations. I do get that

Well, I sent my T a letter about my little kid being upset that she didn't send a card.
I took complete ownership of my feelings. She called and left a message yesterday.
It turns out that she had written me a card but just hadn't sent it because something urgent came up in her life. I can't go back right now. I feel too ashamed...

you have nothing to be ashamed about .... you were upset; your T had said she would send a card .... it didn't arrive and you were at a loss because you were waiting - what you felt and how you reacted sounds totally fine to me. You let her know; and she let you know why ........... and that it wasn't because she forgot you - hang on to that part and please go see her

Let yourself off the hook. No need to further make this worse by adding guilt to the equation. Take it as a learning experience about your t. She cares. She wouldn't abandon you, no matter what your head tries to tell you. Absorb that belief and let it go. Move forward. Don't glue yourself to your feelings of shame.
Thanks for this!
