Hey,
![]() I realise this year my Birthday is on a day I usually have Therapy. I was just curious has this happened for anyone before? Did you do anything different on that day in therapy? Maybe eat sweets or have a cake or something? Did you perhaps rearrange the day of your therapy and do something with friends and family instead? Did you tell your therapist? Any stories etc? I just thought it would be interesting to hear anyones experience. Or perhaps people celebrated their birthday or their therapists birthday during a session even though it wasn't the actual birth-day? xxxxx ![]() |

I had to go look if my birthday next month is on a therapy day. Nope, and I can't even change it to that day because it's her day off. So, I have no stories to anticipate sharing.

No but I had a session on my T's birthday. I didn't know at the time, she told me after our session ended. Then I felt kinda bad because it was a rough session.

My T use to light a candle for me at my birthday. He does it even if my birthday and therapy day isn´t on the same day.

This year my session was on my birthday. I had told my T ahead of time that I was going to bring cookies or something. So I did. Halfway through the session I got upset because I said I wished she had gotten me a card. She said she doesn't get any of her clients cards. So, of course that made me feel worse!
My T saved the day, though! She brought out paper and markers and we made a card together. She even wrote "hugs n love" on it though she won't say those words to me. It was very special and when I'm feeling down, I look at my card. ![]() |

Former T never acknowledged my birthday. I never had a session on my exact date, but i used to mention - on this day it was/will be my birthday. She never seemed to remember (or care really). I think once when i mentioned it was my birthday the day before or something she said happy birthday.
With this T - I have yet to see. I wish she would bring me a card, but I know she probably won't ![]() |

T and I have birthdays 1 day apart. Last year it fell on my birthday. We had a party! I brought cake. She brought presents. We have DID and she brought presents for EVERYONE inside--wrapped and everything. She picked out things that she knew every kid would like. I had a present for her too. We had a great time. Talked about happy and fun things. It was really fun.

Thanks to everyone who has answered so far it has been very interesting to read all the answers!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOURREDHEADS and TRINITYDANCER! ![]() ![]() ![]() Skysblue - it sounds like you would have liked your birthday to fall on a day you had therapy, what would you have liked to happen if it did? zbmom - don't worry, your therapist must enjoy her work if she decided not to take her birthday off. Perhaps she also wanted to cheer you up by sharing something personal with you ![]() Rainbow_rose - great gift to give yourself hehe!! Truefaith - that's lovely that your T does that! Echoes - that's what will most likely happen with mine lol. Rainbow8 - I can understand that you really wished that she had got you a card and knowing she didn't buy any client a card didn't help because in your heart you don't want to be 'just another client' I am sure. **huge hugs** I would probably feel the same and I know my T would never buy me a card. I think it's lovely that she decided to do something special and make a card with you during the session and that she wrote something so special on it for you ![]() Vaffla - I hope your new therapist acknowledges your birthday ![]() Soupdragon- I am glad that even though it wasn't mentioned, you were happy with that. To be honest I normally hate my birthday and would rather not have one at all sadly so I can understand wanting to avoid it altogether. ![]() SarahMichelle - your Therapist always sounds so lovely (and I hope she returns very soon) ![]() ![]() anyone else? |

my t always has something for us on our birthday (or near it). usually a card & a gift card or gift. same thing at christmas. we always get ehr something on ehr birthday & for the holidays too...
she complains & says we shouldn't spend our money but then opens it and smiles and says she loves what ever we get her. this year when her son signed his papers for eearly enrollment in the navy we got her a nice bunch of roses in blue & gold. we knew it was both a good & sad day for her...we sent her out for a glass of water for us & then surprised her when she came back in by having them on her seat. she has brought that up a bunch of times so we know it meant a great deal to her.... stumpy ![]() |

My session last week fell on my birthday and I brought in some chocolate. My T had a card for me, which was really nice. She also sang, "Happy Birthday" to me.
I say celebrate your birthday in your session, if that is what you would like to do. You can make it really special... |

Thanks dizgirl for starting this thread and to everyone for their responses! It's something I've been thinking about as well.
Happy birthday FourRedheads and Trinity Dancer! And happy upcoming birthday, Dizgirl (you didn't say when it is but I assume it's close given that you started the thread!) ![]() To answer the question, my birthday has never fallen on T day but, last year, I had a session with T 2 days later. I told her about the birthday party I had that weekend but, other than that, it was like any other session. At the time, I had only been in T for 6 months and I didn't feel a strong attachment to my T, so that was perfectly fine; I didn't expect anything more. However, my birthday is coming up again and I feel very differently this year. My T session will be 1 day after my birthday and while I don't expect T to get me a card or anything tangible like that, I do want her to wish me a happy birthday and say something "nice." She knows I have maternal feelings for her and I don't have a mom or any real "parental" support in my life, so it would mean a lot to me if she simply said something nice to me on (ok, 1 day after) my birthday. If she doesn't acknolwedge it at all, that would definitely hurt my feelings. I would feel like (1) she doesn't care and (2) she doesn't understand me because, if she did, she would know how important that was to me. She will have a heads up too-- I plan on telling her the week before what I will be doing for my birthday, as well as my "birthday history," so she'll know in advance when my b-day is and how I feel about it. However, I don't know if it's fair (or realistic) to expect T to say "happy birthday" let alone anything more personal or heartelt than that. I don't know how Ts are trained to respond to client's birthdays, or whether they alter their response to the individual client. I assume it all depends on the T; mine isn't particularly sentimental, but she is coming to understand that I am so maybe she will take that into consideration. As for my T's birthday-- I've wondered about that. If I knew when it was, I would make her a hand-made card and write something nice inside. However, she's never told me when her b-day is and I haven't asked because I'm afraid she might find the question to be an invasion of her privacy. |
