I want to give this poem to my T for Christmas next week along with a pair of crystal angel earrings I made for her. She is okay with gifts; when she was in the middle of her battle with breast cancer, I gave her an awareness bracelet I made for her and she almost cried and wore it the next two times I saw her. She's patiently waited for ten months for me to open up my deepest wounds to her and we started last week. Please forgive the sappiness; she has told me she loves me. Also please forgive the overt religious sentiments as we are both Christian. So, what do you guys think?

Angels

I have been hurt by so many others in my life
But God has always placed special people
Along the way to show me how worthy I am
Of salvation, love, meaning, and laughter.

At those times when light turns into darkness
And I get lost and veer off the pathway of life,
Someone always comes along serendipitously
To set me back on the road and light the way.

They may walk alongside me for just a season,
Or they might be with me for the rest of my life.
But each will always hold a piece of my heart;
An angel using a human body as a disguise.

When I met you I may not have been serious
About healing the deepest wounds of my past.
I was distant, ashamed, and mostly determined
That you were not going to see who I really am.

He intervened so that you could see through me
And you risked sharing some of your own story
So that I could see you as human, not clinician,
And open my heart to trust Him for my healing.

Now you walk ahead of me on that scary path
Turning back to me and holding out your hand.
You want me to take it and believe you and Him,
Waiting so patiently for me to trust and follow.

God is drawing me back into His wide open arms
And He shows me His love through your eyes.
He has given you an amazing gift to help others
And I am privileged to feel His love through you.

In this season we celebrate God’s greatest gift
Who sacrificed Himself to give each of us grace.
I pray to thank God that for this time in my life,
He has given me the cherished angel that is you.

She wants me to open up and show her the real me. This is a way of doing that. I usually don't express how I feel about too many people for fear of getting hurt. So the poem is very genuine and has a therapeutic purpose. Thanks for your feedback! It means so much!
