hi holidays to me were never any good you see i am an adult child of alcoholic my dad was very violent and all the holidays no matter which they were started out fine with lots of people liquor then we had to run for safety or call the cops i mean all holidays every holiday up until the age of 23 yrs old.
so i am just going to concentrate on the spiritual part of this holiday and cuddle with a good book, but i wish everybody the best and new years eve is coming up i have a tremendous problem with that i wish i could just sleep through it |

Day 5 of Chanukah here in our house. We are celebrating a "green" Chanukah, where gifts are in reusable boxes rather than wrapped in throwaway paper.
The history of Chanukah goes like this, like the other Jewish holidays, in 3 parts: 1. They tried to kill us (the they in Chanukah are the Greeks). 2. We beat 'em! (and we got our Temple back, but there was only one day of oil left to light the menorah that we are commanded to burn eternally) Sidenote to Chanukah: 8 days were needed to produce more oil for the menorah, but miraculously, the 1 day's worth of oil lasted for 8 days 3. Let's eat! (for Chanukah, latkes and other things fried in oil-- donuts, etc. Anne |

^^^ Thanks! I am always interested in learning about Chanukah. I really like the idea of making the gift giving "green". Very nice.

sweepy, I hope someday you can shake all the old bad memories off & start building new good holiday memories for yourself. I don't do holidays but not because of memories. Please work hard--you can have a great life once you reclaim it.
