Hi everyone, I do need to trust again in pyschiatry because i feel meds can help me recover with therapy too.

Yesturday i saw this old pdoc guy first time, very cold and distant it made me feel so shut down. He at the end told me to keep going to my gp for meds. Are not pyschiatrist for anti-depressants? Should i tell my t how i feel and need to see another pyschiatrist, im at lost feel like a number lost in the system.

I have not been to my old p in 20 months, do not know if she would take me back. Thanks for reading this.

sounds like a dud. Why don't you try your old pdoc? Did you leave on bad terms with her?

I left her in good terms. Was very foolish when i met my husband i thought i did not need to see her anymore. It backfired. So now my Gp is handiling my meds right now.

Taylor, I'm sorry that meeting with the pdoc was so unsatisfactory. Do you want to see a pdoc because the meds that your GP prescribed are not working well? Or you feel your GP doesn't have enough expertise to prescribe for you? I think there are cases where a GP's prescribing is adequate for psychiatric issues. Many times not, but sometimes yes. Sometimes a pdoc will start the patient off on some meds, find a good med or meds, and then let the GP continue with the prescribing. Could it be that the pdoc you saw believed your GP was doing a good job with prescribing--he agreed with the med choices and thought your symptoms were improving? If you go ahead and see a different pdoc, I think it would be helpful if you emphasize what you want from the pdoc that you are not able to get from the GP. Good luck.

I think because i do have a good relationship with my gp he wants me to stick with him for the meds. I was hoping to get a correct diagnoses for my mental illness. I do have depression and ptsd i do not know what else. I am seeing my gp the meds are not working right. Thankyou for your reply

Is your GP prescribing you your antidepressants now? Generally GPs handle 'uncomplicated' cases of depression on their own. Did your GP send you to this pdoc for a consult? It sounds like that's what this pdoc thought your visit was intended to be. He reviewed your case and decided you were on the correct medication, so he told you to continue treatment under your GP's care. Many pdoc's will only take on complicated or treatment-resistant cases long-term, and will only do consults on simpler cases.

It sounds like there was a gap between what your expectations were of the appointment and what his expectations were. He should have made sure there wasn't a misunderstanding about the purpose of the appointment.

My GP handles my anti-depressant. Her only rule for it is that she'll only prescribe them if I'm in therapy. If I quit therapy, she won't prescribe.
