Once I realized that there was no pressure on me to think of something profound to say to break the silence, I started to really like and appreciate the silences as time just to be present in the moment. With my previous t, it became something of a ritual. Time to just sit and be companionable with no pressure.
My current t isn't as comfortable in the silence and he tends to "rescue" me by breaking it. When I really am stuck and don't know what to talk about, that's exactly what I tell t. He then either suggests a topic or asks me questions to get us started. |

95% of the time i go in without an agenda... it has worked well.
on those few times i actually want to talk about something or ask t something i cannot do right away. have to see how the session progresses first, gauge moods. his and mine.. just try going in without an agenda. might like it. take some of the pressure off? and i like what critterlady said, tell your t... i go to t on thursday. do ya want some pocket riders? |

I know what that was like, not having a topic to start with. Do try to come up with a plan though, anything at all can lead to a good session. Did you do or think/not do something over the weekend? Anything going on this holiday weekend coming up? Thoughts on that? When desperate, how is the weather affecting you?
![]() I'm on the water and our neighbor's sea wall caved in bad (and he's on the corner so he has a huge area of sea wall) and he's already had to spend almost $50,000 and it's not even fixed, that's just to see what the problem was (dug up the whole back yard); the home owners association says more are going to break (our houses are 40+ years old) and with his looking so bad no way we could sell our house if we wanted and there's a chipped part of our wall that got worse with his break, etc. I think of this now because it's high tide and the water is almost over the wall (happens once or twice a month but has been more often in the last couple years), reminding me of global warming, etc.

I know it sounds trite, but it might help to talk about not talking.
