Wow just had a major trigger episode here at work. Some big dude was yelling at me and he had a voice that was eerily close to the guy who robbed us...he was getting in my face and everything. (I work at a court, so I expect this, but...)
Oh my gosh I was freaking out after he left.
But, I actually called the answering machine at my T's office and just hearing her voice calmed me down...I know, weird!! She has this mid range kind of grainy/smooth voice which for some reason worked to soothe me. Oh well. No replies expected, just needed to vent.
Hope I make it through the rest of the day, though, keeping my mind occupied so I don't have flashbacks...hope it works....

I'm sorry someone ruined your day for no good reason, that's awful!

I think it's so cute that you thought to call and listen to her voicemail - and that it worked! I hope the rest of the day is much better for you, lovely!

I'm sorry that you had to go through that and am glad that hearing her vocie helped. I've done the same thing in the past, through now I usually listen to saved voice messages from her that I really like and comfort me. I don't save them all, just the ones that I find really touching or encouraging or comforting. It really helps when I know I can't get ahold of her.
Thanks for this!

I'm glad you have a new tool to use that you know helps! I also find much relief in hearing my Ts voice. T has reminded me that I can always call and listen to the machine if I need to, I don't have to leave a message if all I need is to hear Ts voice. We gotta take what we can get as we fill our tool boxes up with healthy ways to cope! Good work!

It is good you had a way to help yourself. I have heard therapists suggesting this sort of thing. Glad it worked for you.
Thanks for this!

I have a voice mail from my therapist saved because it helps settle me to hear his voice. It's a perfectly innocuous voice mail about nothing in particular, but it's helpful. It's great you were able to reach out and it was helpful!
Thanks for this!

I'm glad hearing his voice helped . Ugh who is that guy yelling getting in your face?! Some people...wow. Anyways, i save T's voicemails to me and I periodically listen to them (one in particular) and it helps to hear his voice- so totally understand
Thanks for this!

I have quite a few voicemails from my T that I have saved. So, when I need connection I know I always have those to fall back on. Yes, it's good to hear her voice. There is something that modulates the emotions- that kind of 'touch'.

Not weird at all, I never delete voice-mails from my therapist and sometimes listen to them when I'm feeling down.

Too bad our office phone system auto deletes the oldest messages saved when it fills up...
