ive always gone to therapy because my pdoc wont give me meds if i dont see someone in his practice at least every 2 months. im not entirely honest, because two different ts have committed me before, and i dont want it to happen again. but bf thinks that i need to take therapy more seriously because the meds arent cutting it.

so should i keep current t and just put effort into it, or start fresh with someone new. that new t would have to be at the same practice though so it might be awkward.

i dont dislike t. but she answers her phone in session and is frequently late. pisses me off.

Have you told her that answering the phone is unacceptable to you? I would be very upfront about your worry of being committed if you open up. If you don't like the responses she gives to those two things get a new T. My T has mentioned both crisis hospitalization and out-patient. Both times I told her that she scared the **** out of me. I doubt she'll bring it up again unless it's more than needed.

it would be good if you could talk to your t about both those things; neither of which is good ... see if you can work around it ... you mentioned your bf thinks you should take therapy more seriously; what about your own thoughts with that?

HI,
I agree with the person above. Be honest with your t and just see how she responds. If it's not positive then try to find a new t. Also, do you like your psychiatrist? Would you be willing to switch psychiatrists if it meant getting a t you're more comfortable with. It sounds like you hav a lot going on. Therapy will only work if you have someone you feel comfortable with. By the way, what's cluster b? I have my BS in counseling psych, but don't think I've heard of that. Unless it's cluster b on axis II? Just curious if you don't mind my asking. Good luck with this.

@adel34 - yes, axis ii cluster b. ive never gotten a real answer from anyone about what that actually means.

i like pdoc, hes the only one ive had that i have any respect for. i dont really want to risk losing him. im actually thinking about doing an outpatient hospitalization because i need to take some drastic measures. i did one years ago by force and didnt get anything out of it, but i want to really try this time.

I usually feel better if I know I've given it my best shot before I move on to something else. So I'd try mentioning the lateness and phone-answering (NOT acceptable, and don't let her try to tell you they are). And I'd also mention it to your pdoc if you like him -- that this is getting you down, and while you like him, you're concerned that T might not be right for you. He might be able to offer alternatives that are acceptable to him to keep you on as a patient.

It sounds great that you really want to try, hold onto that feeling. It sounds like you have a lot to handle. Like I said, for me, if I can at least give myself evidence that I'm trying as hard as I can, that gives me a little boost of confidence in myself.
