Hi Guys,
I know I haven't posted in a while. It's been really weird the past few weeks. A couple weeks ago I was really depressed for a week or more. I just basically kept to myself, slept much of the time, didn't go to day program. During this time I decided to switch day programs, as it was just taking too much energy out of me driving the hour each way. So I found a closer one, and will be going for the intake for it Monday. I finally got matched with a therapist, yay! At a place that has free therapy for youth too! The therapist I'm matched with actually turned out to be the intern who sat in with me as my "support person" during my intake appointment. She is a PHD student, and seemed very nice. I should be seeing her next week. So yeah, things seem to be looking up.

yeah travel time can kill ya. people would ask me what I was doing now, and I would answer, nothing, i'm doing nothing, but it takes me all day to do it! I used to drive my own car and be late all the time. I am much more punctual by bus, but it does add time. on the other hand, it also adds exercise - those few blocks of walking can help, if you let them, ie don't overeat them away.

Thanks everyone!
I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on stuff. Hankster, I take disability paratransit or medicade transportation, both door to door services. With paratransit, I'd have to wait on one van at least a half an hour for the second van to transfer me from the suburbs where the program was to the city. With medicade transportation it went right there but the guys on the bus with me were so loud and roudy that I hated it! I know what you mean about exercise. I always feel better when I go for a walk with one of the other residents.

The trouble with a long commute to therapy/group is that it is too easy to worry all the way there and back again. I used to have a long commute to therapy and the commute made it hard to switch my thoughts to other things

Adel, I'm glad things are looking up for you! I've worked for 13 years in the field of mental health and disabilities. I've run a day program for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I know there's a big difference between an IDD program and the ones you are involved in, but there are plenty of both varieties that are sub-par. I hope the new one you've found is one of the good ones! I'm happy you've found a therapist too!!
I hope everything works out for you! ![]() ![]() ![]()
