Hi Everyone,
So for once Adel actually has something to do everyday next week. It's shocking! (smile) Monday I go in to see one day program, the one irronically that was all uptight about the fact that I'm blind. They said I was going to have a tour and then sit in on groups, but then the person said my tour is going to be at one and groups end at like two or three, so I have a feeling I won't be seeing much of that. I can tell she's still a little unsure of whether or not they can accomidate me which I still find so just wrong. But we'll see. My OT is really trying to hammer into me that I need to give people a chance and not just write them off so here I am. Then on Tuesday I'm going to take a little field trip to the southside of Chicago (I live on the northside) to see a dance therapist. I wrote her because I liked her website a lot, and that she worked with the blind on dance and art therapy. She was so impressed with me or something that she offered me three dance therapy sessions for free! So yeah, should be cool. She, by the way, knows of the program I'm touring Monday as well as the one I'll be looking at on Wednesday, so maybe she can give me some guidance about which one is best. So I thought for sure this program I'm ending up going to look at on Wednesday wasn't going to have room for me, as they only take 30 clients and they only had one spot open. Someone else was doing their trial days and then I thought for sure they'd take the spot. But no! So I'm gonna go in at Wednesday at ten, and spend the whole day there until three to sit in on groups and get to know the place. The intake person there seemed totally fine with the fact that I'm blind, which was refreshing. This program sounds really cool too. They actually have art therapy, movement, yoga, and music therapy groups among others. Then after I see that place I go right to therapy, which will be cool since I'm sure I'll have a lot to say. And my therapist is starting her closed women's support group which should be interesting. Thursday I see music t for our first real session. We're going to hopefully be doing more singing/music listening and improvisation stuff, and less piano since that was exhausting. Also there might be the music t group again which is awesome! Friday I meet my state blind services caseworker for an intake. She asked me so many questions on the phone yesterday I thought that was the intake. Really poking around about what caused my depression, anxiety, twitching, ETC. Didn't think she needed to know all that to help me with blindness issues but whatever. I was disappointed that I won't be able to get a new braillenote (like a portable braille computer for the blind) until I'm working. She says they don't give the technology out for people to sit at home with. I understand in a way, as it's extremely expensive (a braillenote costs like six thousand dollars!) but still so many people use them for daily life stuff that I don't think it should just be for those who work. The most amusing thing though was that she said I'll have to take a test on braille in order to get one! I asked why in the world, and she said,"So that we're sure you know braille in order to use the braillenote even though you already have one." (not to mention that I've known braille since about kindergarten/ first grade!) My mom said I could give the braille test to others, I was like yeah. Anyway, thought you all would get a kick out of that. So yeah, lots going on! i'll be sure to let you all know as things unfold. I'm really hoping that one or the other of these places will be a good fit for me. __________________ Check out my blog: matterstosam.wordpress.com and my youtube chanil: http://www.youtube.com/user/mezo27 |

Wow, you sure have an incredibly busy schedule next week. It all sounds exciting, though! Try to get adequate rest each night, cuz it is bound to be exhausting! (( HUGS ))
