Hi Everyone,
Just a quick question for anyone that's been in a therapy group with co-leaders. I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of having two ts in there is. The women's group that I've only had two sessions in only has four people, one is leaving we think and we may be getting a couple more but don't know. There are two leaders, a post-doctoral fellow in psychology who works at the same place I see my t at, and my t who is a PHD intern.
This past session and last session it seems that the post-doc one is doing almost all of the talking. She facilitated a discussion of group rules and introductions, and is mainly the one to ask questions of members or make comments. And then sometimes she'll ask my t if she has anything to add, or my t might make a comment here or there. But for the most part she says nothing. It's just been on my mind and I'm just wondering why she's there if she's really not saying anything. Unless halfway through the group they switch and she'll ask the questions and the other one will back off, LOL! I have no idea.
Anyone have thoughts?

My group had a man and a woman. That made it feel like a family.

I've just realised that the woman was very hands-on (like my Mum) and the man was very hands-off (like my Dad). Maybe that's why I felt so much at home.

My group therapy has two T's as well. The Ts are there to help the flow of the group, but also to pay attention to each person in an effort to make them aware of things that they may not be aware of, etc. Typically, my T is the one who speaks most...and the other T observes and makes very few comments. Afterwards, though, they converse and share feedback about what they observed - and it gets compiled into notes that are posted on our group T blog, so we can gain some insight about the group as a whole and then each of us, individually.

That's exactly how it was for me

This is something I've never even heard of.

My T told me that he came up with the idea many years ago before email and internet...and he used to mail out the notes to each person, via snail mail!

Now, we have the technology, thankfully....I love reading the feedback each week. T talks about a certain topic or struggle that we're going through in group, provides some insight about our process...and then posts individual progress notes about each of us. We are then encouraged to respond and provide feedback to others throughout the week. It's very useful, if people choose to use it. And it helps keep group members connected through the week. Again, if they choose to use it.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your replies. It sounds like this is typical for therapy groups, to have one t saying more while the other observes. This makes sense, and is probably what's going on.
MU: the idea of a group blog and your t posting notes on everyone sounds so interesting!
Thanks everyone.

My group had a man and a woman therapist running it. I think part of that was so that if one of them couldn't be there, the group could still go on without interruption.

My group only has one T and he's going on vacation soon (he deserves it he works very hard) but it means that group will be cancelled for weeks. Tough for me and my abandonment issues... something to bring up in group I guess.
