Lately, Ts couch has squeaked much more regularly when i sit down in it. The last couple sessions, I have gone to adjust my positions but had to stop as it started making noise and the room was so quiet that it felt like bombs were going off.
I have an ED...binge eating, so I am significantly (100 lbs) overweight. One of my worst fears has always been breaking furniture or a chair at school. This is bringing all of that up for me. What if it breaks? That would be so embarrassing. Many of you will say talk to T about it, but I just don't see how I can. |

One of my T's chairs broke, she told me thankfully when no one was there. I'm pretty sure if it was my T and it happened to a client, that she would be the one feeling very embarrassed.
I guess if it was me, I'd cope with it by bringing it up in a jokey way. It makes so much noise, I'd die of embarrassment if I broke it, you know T? |

At this point, I never want to go back to her office. This is probably so stupid. |

Is there a different chair to sit in? If the squeaking bothers you so much, just sit in a different place so you don't have to hear it squeak everytime you move. That would solve the problem, wouldn't it?

Nowhere else to sit really. I've thought about it. The other end of the couch is closer to T and is where most of her clients sit so it very well could be even noisier.

I am also at least 100 lbs overweight. Seriously that's not enough to bust a chair is it? Unless it's a very delicate antique. It's your t's responsibility to have sturdy enough furniture, they do get paid enough. I usually make a fart joke when my chair squeaks, but that's just me. And yes I have experience in this area. I flipped over in his old chair from laughing too hard. I didn't sue him and he didn't charge me when he later replaced it with a couple of different chairs.

I don't like to admit my problem, and I don't like it when it's acknowledged by other people. This is actually something we're working on right now a bit. Actually, just typing the number of pounds overweight on this thread is probably the first time in a while that I've admitted it to myself let alone anyone else. It's a little panic inducing. |

Fart jokes. That makes me smile. Thanks. Maybe it's not that serious. Idk. It really has always been terrifying to me, and I would jump mountains to keep myself out of situations where it might happen. I'm glad someone else can maybe understand just a little. |

Ugh. I so get this. Sorry. I constantly worry about breaking furniture. Constantly. It is horrible and so shame inducing.

Once I was talking to T & I started to gesture wildly. As I thrashed about, I noticed the chair was squeaking. I stopped talking & looked at the chair. T said "Yes, I need to get a new chair, don't I?" Yes T, yes you do. And he did.

Fixated, I get how your feeling. I think your moving now being audible is actually a good metaphor for your fears being "heard". We are afraid our darkest fears would kill us if they became heard/seen. I get the feeling this is actually a good thing to be happening now. A chance to say "I am terrified my worse fears are about to become real and as I move this couch will break". Let T take it from there.

I don't think you can broke a couch just by sitting on it- however, if it's that distracting for you you really should tell your T to change the couch/provide another sitting option for you.
