I stopped drowning by starting to understanding the waves better and then I learnt to swim!

Nice metaphor. I guess I'm still working out what recovery means. Initially I thought it meant not being depressed, then I thought it meant being able to get along with my husband. And then the real work started around learning how to attach to other without reflexively pushing them away.
Thanks for this!

For me, recovery means...acceptance.

I accept me.

For me, it means being able to recognize all of the joy and gratitude that still exists in the middle of the mess. Some days I really get it, other days, not so much.

....learning to let go of the past... the future ...and all of the fear that keeps me in a constant state of..well...Hell.

I think recovery for me means, that I can accept not being perfect, but learn to find joy in my imperfection...

(YIKES I have set a lofty goal...of course this is day to day...)

Recovery means:
releasing the felt shame of being myself
learning who I am
being grounded in who I am
finding a new career that plays to my strengths
accepting myself

Recovery is the calm after the storm and being in a good place. No more craziness, just laid back and chill and living life for once and not just existing.
