No, but I've had a therapist tell me that he's seen people "who have no business being in therapy".

He wasn't a very good therapist though, so take that with a bag of salt.

It has come into my brain as a fear, something I have been afraid I'd hear.

Where do you think it came from for you, newtus?

a fear too but a fear of what my past therapists may have actually thought about me.

i mean i KNOW they wouldnt say that now but im not the type to really goto therapy. not anymore anyway. recent therapies they try to tell me im delusional and all this other life problem stuff that i think is BS.

My T, after meeting with me twice, said he didn;t think I really needed therapy. Boy, did I have him fooled. I think I had myself fooled as well.

No but I had a psychiatrist who said long term therapy was bad and medication would be the one thing that would really help me. After adding in one new medication to what I already took and that not working miracles in three weeks, he informed me that no medication was going to help me and there wasn't anything worth trying because one strong combination hadn't worked. Apparently therapy is the only way to go, he said, and I just have to "dig deep".

I had a T tell me I was a "spoiled brat!" (age 14) and didn't need a pdoc or therapist. She had a couple more "nice" things to say before I refused to see her anymore. If current T said I didn't need therapy I think I'd hug her and skip out of her office, never looking back again. T says I need meds and therapy though.

I had a pdoc start doing the "substance abuse assessment" (as she called it) part of the session...first session. And asked me about drinking. I said I don't drink...because I don't. She was like, "Are you sure, because oftentimes people with anxiety like to have at least a drink or two to take the edge off of their day!" Excuse me, so you WANT me to drink, and you think I am lying?? She didn't believe I didn't do recreational drugs either.

The session got so bad when she questioned my mother's (who is now deceased) neurological illness and how it really affected her (and me) as I was growing up that I got up and walked out.

I looked her up online later and found a ton of reviews by other people supporting my experience. She shouldn't be allowed to practice psychiatry, period.

This isn't about a therapist but I saw a GP once who said "I know I have only just met you but you don't seem that depressed to me". Needless to say, I was not impressed. My main reason for seeing her was because I was having trouble sleeping. Her piece of advice? Read a boring book like "War and Peace" before I go to bed. I wonder how some people even get the jobs they have.

It makes no sense. I know good therapists who engage in therapy on general principles - so they are sure not to bring their stuff into their client's sessions. Which means they still have stuff to work out! Some therapists consider it an ethical and professional obligation (and I tend to agree).
While I can't economically justify continuing therapy until I die, if I was independently wealthy I might. There's always more stuff to work on.

My T said some people NEED therapy and others , who could function without it, come because they crave a better existence.
