Alright so I was going to a therapist, certainly questioned how helpful it was but I showed up to the therapy sessions and remained open minded to the possibility of it helping. But just as I felt I might have finally been getting somewhere with my therapist time was up and so I was transferred. It was not up to her but nonetheless she is the one who had to witness my dissapointment.

I knew we only had so many sessions but I lost track and so it ended up being rather sudden without me being able to plan for it. I still have to call and make an appointment with the other therapist I was transferred to, but then I will have at most 6 months with them and then apparently that mental health center doesn't offer anything more long term. Just seems pointless to go through all the trouble agian but at the same time with trying to get on SSI it might look bad not to be in ongoing treatment.

Hellion, sometimes that is how the mental health system works. It's unfortunate, but I suppose the sessions are how to cope and how to work on your problems.

Where I am the limited time is due to budget concerns. Personally, I get more out of coming to PsychCentral than with a therapist. But that's just me.

Sorry I have nothing constructive to say as I live in a different country, but I just wanted to acknowledge your frustration in your situation. I hope you find a solution.

I think it is worth it, but it sounds like what they are offering is too short term. Do you have any other options eg charities etc that offer counselling?

Not that I know of, and I suck at initiating things like that I couldn't even start seeing the therapist I was seeing on my own. I tried a few times to scedule an appointment and get somethings started and it wasn't till my mom was able to get me an appointment that I went.

For the SSI, maybe you can do the counseling every other week to make it last longer (if you have a set number of sessions you are allowed).

Maybe now is the time to try improving in this regard. Because it sounds pretty important! Try breaking this task down into little chunks and doing one at a time.

It's a lot more complicated than you might think, I get intimidated easily or something so I cannot really figure out how to word things or explain what I need or whatever. I mean yeah I will obviously have to call and hope for the best but its likely if I start getting nervous about it....I'll get too overwhelmed to follow through with it.

Also I just generally fail at social interaction.

I'd see if this agency could help in any way: Pro Bono Counseling & Referral Program
